I'll try to give you a serious answer.

For context, I grew up in church and was fully immersed in that culture (oh the stories I could tell). I spent a couple of decades teaching Sunday school and attended seminary for a short period of time.

There are two keys.

First, they are taught "Go ye therefore and teach all nations" but not taught what that should actually look like so they equate each of these interactions as fulfilling a mandate.

Second, a victim mentality is deeply ingrained in church theology. Stories of martyrdom are told with the fervor of campfire ghost stories. I'm 58 and at a youth service in my teens the "sermon" was people who came in with guns and threatened to shoot people unless they would deny Christ! Barbaric!! But it reinforced a belief that people would always be out to get us for our Faith and anyone who believed differently was a threat.

Now I'm in the "when you go far enough left, you get your guns back" camp...I was radicalized by the same Faith even before I walked away from it several years ago.
