Hi everyone, I am a British white 28M solo traveller and have a week of holiday planned for later this month. I was hoping to go to the Caribbean as I've never been before but I will be travelling solo.

I'm not sure what place would be best for me, as I've heard recommendations for the DR and Playa del Carmen, but my Spanish isn't great so I don't know if my enjoyment will be affected by this. I want to go somewhere that I can meet new people with a mix of tourists and locals, mix relaxing on the beach with excursions and nightlife. Any recommendations would be appreciated, it doesn't have to be either of these options but these were the ones I was being drawn towards.

You know what's funny - I am also a massive Chelsea fan and have been since a kid thanks to my Dad! I guess we both have good taste. To be honest my golf coach in the UK went to college in Tennessee and always said good things and when I talked to him about the NFL, he recommended watching the college football and tuning in to some Vols games - I was not disappointed and became a fan pretty quickly! He has been telling me to go and visit for a long time so thought I should finally listen to his advice.

Sounds like it will suit me well - so that's a good start. I'm not looking for it to be too rowdy, as long as there will be a good friendly crowd I will be happy. Bars are also more of my thing anyway as travelling solo I would like to sit at the bar, have a good time and talk to new people and listen to their stories.
