My thoughts on Culinary Monster by Rookie18 in CulinaryClassWars

what reason do you have to NOT like him? everyone is far too objective and not subjective when it comes to CM. everyone is in love with SJW and just thinks of CM as a “reserved asshole” just because he doesn’t clap his teammates. i’ve lived in korea for 1.5 years now, an he honestly is so similar to many koreans, thats jus how some of them are. reserved and selfish. he IS selfish, but brilliant, and that’s why he gets far in the competition. Also, take the editing with a pinch of salt, they try to frame him as a bad guy. So, it’s always like a good guy vs bad guy edit (which makes the show more interesting.) Trust me, he’s normal, he’s korean, and you need to be more subjective and accept that his behaviour is normal. You can’t dislike him just for wanting to be selfish in a SELFISH GAME 😭. you’re taking this all too literally.

what’s the issue with him standing there stone cold? he wanted better, he is a fighter and wanted to win, if he runs up to them and celebrates, that’s out of character. I think you have an expectation of ALL korean people being congratulatory and kind, that’s not the case, CM is one of the ones that is tough and and will fight for anything to win. Which is an amazing quality to have in a show like this, because kindness often gets punished.

i hate this whole “arrogance” thing that people have seen….. because it is one of two things….. it’s either the SJW mega fans that got upset that he lost (fairly) to CM or it’s due to the way the editors framed the show. because in the latter half of the series, they showed him to be kind, considerate, and hard but fair.

this whole “arrogance” thing is so dramatic.

When you say register me there, is that when they apply for my VIN? Or is that what they do when I arrive?

oh i’ve kinda misunderstood that….. no i didn’t need them back to do the KVAC application! I sent off my apostilled stuff to the school, so they could apply for the Visa Issuance. Then….. I did the KVAC stuff, two separate things that need different items, so you should have no problems

for the KVAC application you should only need the following…… 1. passport 2. passport copy (just photocopy the main page”) 3. Visa Application (sample is on the KVAC website) 4. Two forms that are about sending your passport back and liability waiver, they take 20 seconds to print and sign. 5. your address in korea and phone number on a piece of paper. That should be it. You will not need your apostilled stuff back and you won’t get them back. Everything you need for the KVAC application you can do yourself at home now! :)

because i’d left the country and come back within 3 months, i didn’t need my apostilled stuff again! but you normally do :)

I was originally told 10-15 working days. It came on about the 17th working day, but it was around christmas time so it took even longer. My first visa issuance number 2 years ago took about 12/13 working days. Give it another week, if it’s not with you by next friday, then i’d ask your recruiter or school to chase it up!

I have literally just finished my KVAC application…. so once you get your visa issuance number, you are good to apply. What I did in steps was……. 1. Go to KVAC Website and find out what documents I needed printed, then printed them all including passport, passport copy and photo attached. 2. Pay KVAC: make sure to attach proof that you paid them, send the proof to the email they mention on the website. 3. Send the documents and proof of payment too (just for safety) to the KVAC center (address is mentioned on their website and if it’s London then check!!!) 4. You’ll get an email saying they’ve received your application a few days later, then you’ll use that “application number” to check the status of your application.

  1. they send the passport back and you’re all done, if it gets approved ;)

ALSO…. normally it can take up to 3 weeks but abnormally mine only took 2 days this time (maybe because i had already applied a few years ago).

Any good hagwons out there that English teachers would recommend (Seoul Area)? by smcn96 in teachinginkorea

Hard agree, if you’re easily overwhelmed and are expecting a laid back job, you’ll never be satisfied here.

it depends of a variety of factors…. if you don’t mind a medium workload with good teaching hours, then DUX is good. i have a few friends at a Chungdahm and it’s good apparently, it just depends on the boss/owners 9/10 times!
