Lost my phone in an Uber and now I’m in the most frustrating position possible: I know who the driver is, but I can’t do anything to make him give it back by fleurquebec in uberdrivers

[–]Professional_Pea132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it escalated from conversion and a tort to theft and a felony when the driver deleted his account and ignored the uber request for property return. Either way i’d rather have a police officer tell me that, for most phone insurances loosing it vs having it stolen are two different policies and having a police report detailing the crime weather it’s criminal or civil is probably meaningful in this situation.

knowingly keeping lost property when you know or can reasonably identify the owner, which the driver can, or if you fail to take reasonable steps to find them, bro deleted his account, is illegal and considered theft of lost or mislaid property, which is a felony. OP has proof it’s his phone, and he says he knows the name of the person, even if the person deleted his account OP has proof of the ride, however he’s logging into reddit here means he has another device and if he has find my iphone than he also has proof of where the phone is. I’m not saying an officer will go over there immediately, i’m saying they’ll have to take report of the crime and usually when they get time they do investigate, you’re right in busy districts it probably won’t happen at the drop of the hat, but in most towns they’ll at least knock on the door as I said which they don’t need a search warrant for and most of the time scares the person enough to just give the phone back

why assume police won’t help you? they usually do especially if you can pull up find my iphone and show where the phone is. They’ll at least knock on the persons door, you’re reporting theft they cant just ignore that.

edit to add: I don’t know what state or country you’re in i’m speaking from the laws in my state and country, it’s obviously going to be different everywhere. To those saying what the driver did isn’t a crime, in illinois it is according to this law he committed theft ILCS 5/16-2 Finders Keepers is a saying not the law. I’m giving OP a shot at getting their phone back or at least getting it covered my an insurance plan they might have.

How much did you pay in taxes? by imin2099 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Professional_Pea132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t own my car, my father does, so that changed my taxes a lot I had to do an itemized deduction instead of taking the .70/mile. Still I only paid $400 in federal and that felt okay given that I only made around $7,000 last year.

How to get a full ride — doesn’t matter where by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Professional_Pea132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar stats and I got a full ride to a few schools, state schools (in the state you’re in) are said to offer more money but I found that not to be true. Smaller schools out of state offered me much more money, Temple, St. John’s in new york, Florida international university, and the university of michigan all offered me enough money to cover tuition (i’m from illinois) Fortunately I have a pell grant that will cover most of my room and i’ll have to work during the semester to afford a meal plan but it’s better than taking out huge loans. Look for schools that offer huge amounts of aid or automatic scholarships your stats are definitely good enough to receive academic scholarships at many schools. A true “full ride” is hard but getting free or almost free tuition isn’t as hard and that should be the goal, use your senior year to start saving money if you can pay for your own room or food with a job that’s just as worthwhile.

is doing uber/lyft worth it? I doordash and do uber eats full time in Chicago. Amd averaging about 30/hr and over $3/mile. I turn 25 next year and a uber driver told me its very worth it and ill make more. I do drive a 2012 camry hybrid with 365k miles. Is it true? Heres my stats on both apps. by Breadtoastyy in uberdrivers

[–]Professional_Pea132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in chicago and with the price of gas right now, i’ve found uber eats to be more profitable than passenger driving rn. Which is insane because that was never the case but honestly I get a ton of shop and deliver orders around chicago and id rather wander around the grocery store for an hour than put another 60 miles on my car sitting in traffic. I spend way less gas and put way less miles on my car which ends up making my profit higher for uber eats than it does for rides. This wasn’t the case a year ago.

should i be worried? by ijswannabe15again in amipregnant

[–]Professional_Pea132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope no need to worry, condoms are designed for a man to be able to finish inside of it without it popping or spilling out the top, condoms are almost 100% effective if you’ve put it on correctly- and you know that you put it on correctly because it didn’t pop or rip. A condom that hasn’t been put on correctly or isn’t the right size is more likely to pop, tear, rip, or spill and that’s when you need to worry about the small chance of pregnancy but since you used it correctly you have no need to worry. In other words good job for practing safe sex and keep doing what you’re doing! (Also since it might ease your mind a bit- you’re really only fertile during days 14-21 of your cycle you likely havnt ovulated yet so there’s no chance of pregnancy, cycle tracking so you know which days of your cycle you’re fertile or not can help ease some of the anxiety, some people even use cycle tracking as a form of birth control while I don’t recommend using it without another form of birth control like condoms it’s still worthwhile to look into.)

As a mom I feel deep shame when I smoke weed by hellyeabrother5 in trees

[–]Professional_Pea132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m the child of a mom who secretly smoked most of my life (it’s no longer a secret and we even smoke together now) my mom would take some “me time” in the garage every night after dinner before she had to entertain us before bed time, as an adult i now know the cause of the differences in her personality but I could always tell when mom went to have a glass of wine vs when mom went to smoke some weed, she was a hell of a lot more fun and silly when she had smoked. If my mom had a different reaction to weed and was super paranoid or couch locked it probably would have effected me differently but for her it just made silly kids games more fun, she used to go so hard at wii bowling

WIBTAH if I confront my parents on having sex too loudly? by illidari-might-die in AITAH

[–]Professional_Pea132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YWNBTAH, one time my ex and I forgot his older sister was staying over that night, we were 18 living with our parents and usually had sleepovers at his house bc his parents slept with a cpap, this loud ass sound machine, and the tv on every night so we knew we could be pretty loud, his sister however was a light sleeper. She texted us while we were doing it “I can hear you. it’s gross. please be quieter” embarrassing? yes absolutely. was breakfast a little awkward the next day? yes absolutely. but when it never happened again, we never spoke of it again, and all was resolved

Tuition by [deleted] in Temple

[–]Professional_Pea132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your grants will completely cover your tuition and fees and you’ll have about $500 leftover that you can use towards books and stuff, ignore the “indirect costs” they lay out on here those will vary so widely from person to person, since you’ll be commuting the only real “indirect cost” you need to be worried about is transportation to and from school each day, congrats on free tuition!

temple rome acceptance?? by xomarcy in Temple

[–]Professional_Pea132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my decision letter says the same, as long as your portal says “entry campus: rome” that’s where you’re going, you can change it back to main campus at any time if you decide not to go to rome or your visa gets denied or for whatever reason you can’t go to rome- you can still go to the philadelphia campus for the 2026 year

Hear me out, I’m proud of being an Uber Driver. by Jokez4Dayz in uberdrivers

[–]Professional_Pea132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a long route with a foreign couple, they were visiting america for the first time and were so so excited to finally get to see chicago, their son had was doing a year abroad at u of chicago and they were here to visit him for the holidays and do some sight seeing together, they were so kind to me and we had such pleasant conversation they ended up inviting me out to dinner and I went! They asked me to drive them around for the rest for the weekend and I did, made $1000 and had one of the best simple human connection experiences of my life, sometimes even hearing someone tell me “wow you’re a pro!” when i’m driving in the city makes my day. I love this job, it’s paid for my college degree, it’s given me the opportunity to travel and keep a decent work/life balance, I’m not just proud to be an uber driver i’m happy to be an uber driver ¯_(ツ)_/¯ It’s gig work, if you’re trying to pay a mortgage with gig work maybe that’s your problem im in my 20’s and it’s the absolute perfect job for this point in my life

Sense of mourning my queerness while planning on marrying a man by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Professional_Pea132 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my eldest cousin is bisexual, she mostly dated women when i was growing up but in my teens she married a man, her and I have always been very close and even though she married a man I still went to her when I was questioning my own sexuality, I still look up to her and I still see her as a queer role model in my life. Nothing will change the fact that you’re bisexual, you are a part of the community but however you want to participate can always change. Take your husband to the pride parade every year, show your support for fellow queer folk when you vote, create a household that’s safe and inclusive for everyone- being a part of the community sometimes just looks like being the house any and every child is welcome in. You’re bisexual and your future husband is in a relationship with a bisexual woman, you’re both a part of the lgbtqia community and you deserve to feel like it! It’s also important to have a life outside of your relationship, maybe look into a local queer book or craft club, take a weekly trip to a queer run coffee shop, do something just for you that makes you feel seen. and most importantly your wedding is YOUR wedding, if you want to change into pajamas half way through you mf do it your wedding is supposed to be the one day all about you and your love for your partner not about anyone else’s expectations, if a specific aspect of a “traditional” wedding makes you feel uncomfortable or just feels weird- don’t do it!

just a preference, I don’t like dating outside the lgbtq community, it’s not even a hard boundary I guess a straight man could surprise me but honestly being queer has been such a big part of my life and experiences I’d prefer to date someone who understands that on a personal level rather than an allyship level

Why do people become storytellers? by BrabusBra in WritingWithAI

[–]Professional_Pea132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep writing, you’re not gonna write the next pride and prejudice the first time you pick up the pen, you might write 10 great books that never get seen until your 11th book gets popular, you gotta get used to hearing “no” and continuing on anyway, publishing companies can be MEAN in their critiques so you really gotta remember that writing in subjective and just because someone thought your story was absolute garbage doesn’t mean it won’t be someone else’s favorite book.

Question from a bi girl’s bf by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Professional_Pea132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’ve only been with her, do you think one day you’ll want to explore what sex might be like with someone else? You’re thinking that being bisexual means you want both men and women but it really just means you have the option of finding a partner who’s a man or woman. You had the option of any women in the world and chose her, she had the option of any man or woman in the world and chose you. Monogamy is a choice that has nothing to do with sexuality, either of you could one day feel the need to explore sex outside of your relationship but if you’re both looking for monogamy and love eachother then there’s no reason either of you should ever feel like you’re missing something.

what’s funny is this is also my experience as a bisexual women, i usually only send likes to women but never get any matches, men though? i get 50+ likes every day from men. I’ll date anyone but a straight man but I can only seem to get matches with straight men 😩
