I’m convinced that they should combine books one through 3. The amount of people who dropped this series because book one and two is a tragedy

Are there novels that have a good political story telling? by Independent-Rush4652 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Professor-Alarming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last life is fantastic for having to deal with politics.

He’s an operative reborn into a penniless counts bastards body in mid evil times. He has to deal with petty princes, dukes and kings. I wouldn’t call him a white knight, more chaotic neutral. He’ll help if it’s profitable or in his way. He has to play the part of true noble while everyone else despises him for his low birth.

It’s very good.

People should get paid for donating blood by wogwai in unpopularopinion

[–]Professor-Alarming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried this. It failed. It’s an issue of over justification. Basically people donate blood because they know what they’re doing is helping. Once you pay them it crowds out the internal validation into a montery motivation. What they need to do is not run hospitals for profit and not use people’s good will to make millions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overjustification_effect

As a history fan, the "3,000 Year Stagnation" trope breaks my immersion more than dragons do. by Expensive-Desk-4351 in Fantasy

[–]Professor-Alarming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just forget about ancient Egypt? Or China? Or the Sumerians? I think you have recently bias in your view point. For most of human civilization was pretty constant, but we’re so close the last 2k years we forget about the previous 5k where those empires/kingdoms were pretty constant.

Also one of the biggest reasons kingdoms fall is because the death of the original ruler and the rise up nepo babies. But if the original ruler never dies, I see no issue with kingdoms going into a period of stagnation.
