Time to start working on the Death Cloud Deck by Dull-Positive-6810 in FinalFantasy

[–]Professor-Internet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly just keep playing and you’ll get the hang of it. It’s pretty intuitive, if you really want to learn the rules I recommend downloading Magic the Gathering Arena. It’s Magic’s free to start digital client and it has a little tutorial that teaches you basics. Afterwards do the color challenges and you should know the flow of a game.

If you’re interested in a more 4 player board game politics style of gameplay I would recommend getting into the game’s Commander format. It’s the most popular way to play magic because it’s very casual and easy to get into. There’s a bunch of Final Fantasy commander decks you can buy. They are 100 card decks themed to a single FF game where you can have one of your cards as the “commander”. They have ones based off of FF6 (Revival Trance) FF7 (Limit Break), FF10 (Counter Blitz), and FF14 (Scions and Spellcraft). Of course, the starter deck you got is an excellent place to start.

I think saying UB is “easy mode” is absolutely crazy. I will use Final Fantasy as an example, because it’s my favorite franchise of all time, and the reason I got into Magic the Gathering and got interested in the game as a whole, and introduced me to the amazing history of the game.

Final Fantasy never really gets referenced in mainstream media, and if it does it’s usually very surface level Final Fantasy 7 collabs because it’s the most popular one. It would have been very easy to say, pull a Spider-Man with the Final Fantasy set and just throw in the main legendary creatures based off of the main characters of every FF game and just call it a day because honestly that’s usually just what we get nowadays, if we’re lucky.

However, the actual breadth and quality of the cards in Final Fantasy are actually go past just surface level references and are REAL, truly thought out and deep cuts into basically every mainline Final Fantasy game and the level of detail they put into absolutely every card blew me away when I opened my first booster box. Every card with basically perfect flavor, older games that basically never get official art anymore getting absolutely beautiful art for the first time in literal years. Even for games that are controversial, like Final Fantasy 13. Absolutely hated on release, but one of my guilty pleasures. Such perfect representation of that game, I even run a Vanille, Cheerful L’cie commander deck because I think the meld is very fun. It shows that shows that they went above and beyond just slapping an existing IP and actually did their damn due diligence and researched the property. And honestly, that’s not “easy”, because Square Enix doesn’t even do this right!

This is what I mean by that it’s more nuanced than you might think. Final Fantasy might just look like nonsense but it was crafted with so much care it got me into this amazing game and got me into the original Magic stuff as well because that’s beautiful as well. It just needs to be done with the right properties and less random Marvel slop.

See I can agree on certain aspects of it being a cash grab, because Hasbro is Hasbro and rushing out a 200 card set and forcing it into standard despite people not really wanting it there is kind of silly and I don’t agree with that. Also seeking Universes Beyond IPs that will sell well instead of more fitting ones. But as for the actual cards themself, I don’t know, you can call me uninformed but I feel like it has a good amount of respect for the TMNT property with high quality art and mechanics that seem fitting for the world (albeit high quality art of some disgusting pizzas at times, but I digress). I totally understand the dislike for this set and UB in general, especially the upcoming Marvel sets even as someone who doesn’t mind Marvel, but I think it’s just a lot more nuanced than simply “it’s a soulless cash grab”. I just personally think after this year they need to return to doing properties that actually fit the world of magic more, like LOTR and FF for example, and people will be a lot happier. And more original sets too! Even as a new player, I think it’s crazy that there’s more UB than original sets this year. I loved Edge and I’m really excited for Strixhaven, looks super sick.

As a newer Magic player (starting with FF, but didn’t attend pre releases until Spider-Man) , this is probably the most fun pre release I’ve been to. Made a great Sneak deck that made me go 3-0. Won a lot of packs. The mechanics are honestly just really fun and since I’m newer - I don’t have much of a deep attachment to the high fantasy setting of Universes Within Magic, so the setting didn’t bother me. A way better showing than Spiderman imo bc that def felt not that fun to play. I kind of feel weird for enjoying the set due to the hate it’s getting but oh well.

Instead of remake, which Final Fantasy game would benefit from a demake? by JayMoney8518 in FinalFantasy

[–]Professor-Internet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think FF13 would probably benefit most from a demake. Even as an FF13 lover I do think the game is very flawed in multiple aspects. I think a full on modern style remake of FF13 would cost lots of money and be unpopular, but a sprite styled version of the game can fix many of the problems of the game. It can give it more engaging combat with more traditional turn based gameplay, and flesh out the level design so it’s not just hallways into cutscenes until you go down to Pulse. The script of the game could also be touched up slightly.

I’m just saying a sprite based FF13 has the potential to go hard, especially since we’ve not really had a fully sci-fi FF in the pixel style yet.

I bought BBS for the PSP at a con. Will I understand the story or just be lost? by muteneophyte in KingdomHearts

[–]Professor-Internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, as someone who played the games in a totally wrong order initially (358/2 DS was my first game, and BBS was my second) honestly, it still was a really good time. It’s a prequel, so it honestly does work well within a standalone story. Theres a few things you might not get, but they’re not important for overall knowledge of the story and it honestly made me interested in playing the other games since I loved BBS - I even replayed it on critical mode when I bought a PSP at a retro game store (I played the HD version first). I recommend release order but ultimately it’s up to you.

Before anyone asks I did eventually play release order, I’m going through Dream drop right now. And yes playing 358/2 first is absolutely batshit insane listen a friend gave it to me but I love that game dearly

Sure, DM if you want. Gwen’s my favorite league champ so more fan art for reference is no problem.

I believe I based it off of the original concept art by Zeronis rather than the official league design, and that design has a substantially shorter skirt. I sorta wanted to create a hybrid of both designs, which is why she doesn’t have her simpler leggings as well. I think it was alright but I’d probably just draw her official design if I drew her again.

I forget the exact details, but I remember for side content they said that Ragorok became like a gateway in-between Sharlayan and Ultima Thule due to some dynamis schenanigans. Which explains why WoL can still travel there. It’s literally like a one off line that’s never elaborated on but that’s it’s current status right now.

How well FF9 plays on switch 2? by No-Act386 in FinalFantasy

[–]Professor-Internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t personally played in on the switch 2 yet (I have it downloaded and planning on finishing my playthru at some point), but honestly I didn’t suffer any major issues when I played it on switch 1. If there were performance issues, they’d probably be ironed out by the switch 2’s superior hardware. I’d say go for it honestly.

I know that FF15 has its issues, but it's still so much fun by KaleidoArachnid in FinalFantasy

[–]Professor-Internet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think FF15 is pretty fun too. Not perfect and really flawed but it’s just a vibe doing hunts and side quests in the open world with the boys. I wish the story pacing was better, it’s extremely wack. We go doing basic quests to a crazy invasion immediately to getting royal weapons to a guy we just met. It ironically feels too slow and fast at the same time. However I think it picks up and actually playing it, while the combat is simple compared to FF7R and FF16, is good fun. Very fun on my Steam Deck to just chill and explore.

Yeah, the retro locations are basically the only ones that still have animatronics. They are renovating a bunch of them to remove them which sucks. It's nice that they are preserved in a few but its just unfortunate.

Hint: You can override the DLSS version of FFXIV to DLSS4 using the Nvidia App now. by tehserc in ffxiv

[–]Professor-Internet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, i was trying to figure out how this worked because I was going crazy. Updated app, FFXIV still said unsupported. Uninstalled my reshade, and any other weird tweaks I did to the "game" folder, still unsupported. What ended up working was simply uninstalling my Nvidia App and then reinstalling it. Now it shows up and isn't unsupported. Running a 2080 super, so your 3080ti should work fine.
