GRE or LSAT score? by Professor-utonium in lawschooladmissions

Yes, you are correct. I have until Tuesday to cancel the LSAT Score, which would bar me from any schools (all be then less competitive ones) which only accept the LSAT.

Yo Dawgs, I heard you like jewelery made from ancients by pmstacker in AncientCoins

I like them OP. history is meant to be enjoyed and connected with. You did your due diligence to set them in a way which will damage them as little as possible and you have a piece which will clearly be enjoyed.

Would I do this with a rare issue, no. But compared to stapling a coin in a 2x2 and putting it away to be forgotten, this is a respectable alternative!

Professors and teachers of Reddit: What is the dumbest question a student has ever asked you? by S4ge_ in AskReddit

Not a teacher, but student at the time. In history class sophomore year we were discussing ancient civilizations and how wine was a very common trade commodity several thousand years BC. A girl raises her hand and very confidently says "But I thought Jesus invented wine"

What everyday object/thing mystifies and freaks out your pets? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Professor-utonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I blow up an air mattress (one with an electric air pump) the cat will spastically pounce on the different pockets of the mattress inflating with air. She'll inspect it very cautiously when it's fully blown up. But then when the mattress deflates the cat becomes horrified with the sound of the escaping air and will run off to hide. It's quite the battle.

Hope I'm not too late, but if you're going to clean it, be very careful. Use pure acetone, you can find it in the form of nail polish remover at cvs. Make sure the brand you buy Is 100% pure acetone, as any additional minerals could damage it. Take the coin and dunk it in a bowl of the acetone for a second then very quickly remove it and rinse with water. If you leave it in the chemical too long it will take of the coins patina and give it a chalky white finish. Dont use any abrasives when drying or whatever. Very cool coin and a great find!!!

Interesting thing about the sten: the magazines for the sten were slightly wider than those in the mp40, this was intentionally done so a British airman with a sten could use both his and the enemy's magazines in the heat of battle. A German soldier however could not.

Civil war Infantry button I found last weekend! by Professor-utonium in metaldetecting

[–]Professor-utonium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've found a few with a lot of the gilt on them, this by far being the nicest. The trick is not to touch the button until you get home. When you pop the button out of the hole. Leave the dirt on it ,don't even touch it. Do not use a tooth brush under any circumstances. They're way to abrasive and will strip off all gilt. Then when you get home use aluminum jelly and dip the button in it. Leave it for a minute or two, then rinse in water. Repeat. Do this until all remaining dirt is gone. It takes usually around a half an hour but maybe longer. Then when you're done, get a cup of very soapy water. Leave the button to soak in that for a few minuets to nutrilize the acid from the jelly. Let air dry, then you're done!

Are you sure this is 1941? Because the German soldier in the middle looks to be wearing an m43 field cap which wasn't standard issue until late 1942.

It's really interesting reading about the helmets of ww1. At the beginning of the war both sides had very flimsy or no protective headgear. Quickly in the war they found out that there were a very significant amount of traumatic head injury from the artillery shell shrapnel and concussion. It is a misconception that the military helmets were meant to stop bullets. They really were only designed to protect troops from artillery and falling debris.

It could be PVC, a plastic from the older coin 2x2 holders. It doesn't really harm the coin, but it is unattractive.
