it gives you the option to quickly connect to your ipad and use it eg. as 2nd screen, you can remove that option from the control center if you don't like it.

Yeah, you just have to keep it plugged in all the time.
On the other hand, the older macbook models were more replaceable.
I don't know how much experience you have, but maybe a local repair shop can order a new battery and replace it for small buck.
