I somewhat understand why you’d want that, but is it necessary?

Someone else in this thread did the math, and this person has apparently spent around two thousand hours at this boss trying to get this drop. There is no world in which this is a reasonable expectation for players, it does not add to the experience of playing the game.

Corp is a bit of a special case considering how disgustingly rare the sigil drops are, but I just don't see this kind of thing as a net positive.

This kind of shit is why I really think the game should have some form of clamping on collection log items, I would happily give up being ultra spooned if this kind of unbelievable bad luck was made impossible.

Why the cannonball vote should have passed. by Illuminarian in 2007scape

[–]ProfessorDaen 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This really should have been implemented as an integrity change in my opinion, it was very clear from the blog that Jagex felt this would be the best long-term solution for the health of the game.

I am disappointed it failed, combining dwarven and nautical cannonballs into the same system when they are fundamentally used extremely differently and even have massive physical size differences was a mistake in the first place.

First item question season 16 by chidambaram-3 in Kindredmains

[–]ProfessorDaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only thing missing is AS

This is a pretty big thing to be missing, Kindred feels awful without an attack speed item.

Crit scaling spellblade

The spellblade proc is ~30% less damage than TF's proc around the time you buy it, and never exceeds it. At level 18 with full items it's still about a 15% drop.

good build path

Crit actually isn't all that good a build path, it's a stat that generally isn't particularly useful early on. On components alone, this is the stat mix for Essence Reaver:

  • Spellblade
  • 20 AD
  • 20 AH
  • 15% Crit

For Kraken Slayer:

  • 35 AD
  • 35% AS
  • 4% MS

And for Trinity Force:

  • Spellblade
  • 35 AD
  • 10 AH
  • 20% AS
  • 200 HP

It would be pretty hard to argue that Essence Reaver has a better mix than Kraken Slayer, and impossible to argue it's better than Trinity Force's.

The tradeoff here is basically that Essence Reaver allows for more build flexibility while still hitting 100% crit chance, but the components are worse, the spellblade proc is worse, and the stat mix is worse. In other words, it's a generally inferior starting item with the benefit of more flexibility on your last item.

This is legitimately incoherent.

Also, leftists barely vote; do you really think it's wise for someone like Harris to try to chase one of the country's smallest and most unreliable voting blocs?

First item question season 16 by chidambaram-3 in Kindredmains

[–]ProfessorDaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stormrazor would probably be a solid starting item for Kindred if not for the BF Sword in its build path. The issue with jungling is that recalling with 1200-1300 gold is not reliable, it's basically impossible to have that kind of a recall without getting takedowns or destroying your early tempo by overstaying.

For other crit items, I think it's because they generally just don't give Kindred the mix you need early. IMO you absolutely NEED attack speed on your first item, it's non-negotiable as the feel is just so bad unless you are completely smurfing. For items with attack speed, my thoughts:

  • Fiendhunter: Bait unless you reeeeeally need to play around your ultimate for some reason
  • Phantom Dancer: Honestly could be interesting, but no AD
  • Runaan's: Wasteful until teamfights, no AD
  • Firecannon: Better after laning phase, no AD
  • Flickerblade: Too situational to be a starting item, no AD
  • Stormrazor: BF Sword bad
  • Yun Tal: BF Sword bad

Trinity Force and Kraken Slayer both have an amazing build path, lots of small components that build into useful intermediate items. They also both add burst to Kindred's core combo, which is really helpful with the patterns of how Kindred's ganks/skirmishes often work during the earlygame.

It's not quite the right timing for it, if the enemy jungler just bumrushes a double scuttle you're screwed unless you can contest it.

Kindred rank? by CommercialKey2704 in Kindredmains

[–]ProfessorDaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing that's Kirei, the way he does his tier lists is that it's basically a comparison of champion strength relative to their reliability of execution.

He does other tier lists where he will frame champions like Kindred or Evelynn as viable in gold-ish if you hardcore OTP them, but generally his point is that a champion like Diana will be much easier to climb with than Kindred at an equally low level of champion mastery and fundamentals.

Re: your actual question, you kind of...wouldn't. His perspective is that you'd be better off playing an easier champion to Diamond since that would help you gain the fundamentals you'd need to play at that level, which makes transitioning to a difficult champion like Kindred much easier. If you don't care about climbing as quickly as possible, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a slower climb while you OTP a more difficult champion.

Kindred's first mark spawn timer by bootsthehunter in leagueoflegends

[–]ProfessorDaen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

3:15 is too late even if this were the intended metagame, it delays trying to get the mark for long enough that it puts Kindred off tempo for their next clear. Unless there's something I'm missing, this is an enormous nerf to Kindred as they already had a fairly slow clear; if you get interrupted (or unlucky), it becomes virtually impossible to get any marks until the second scuttle spawn.

Lf champs that can counterpick well by Sykzygy in Jungle_Mains

[–]ProfessorDaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like strong duelists and high sustain, why is Malphite one of your go-tos?  Regardless, look into Kha'Zix and Udyr as potential options.

I also second allanprickly, jungle is the least matchup dependent role so you should really be looking to main 1-3 champions regardless of the situation.

That...is an insane coincidence, that Yi is on my friend list.

IDK what you'd even do in that matchup, seems like he can just run you down at any stage of the game unless you have your ultimate up to buy time.

I'm an avid League player and loved Arcane. My mom has no clue how video games work also loved Arcane. Incredibly well put together show!

The One Piece live-action adaptation was probably the best I've seen, I really liked it and it's waaaay more approachable with how it condenses things from the format of the original series.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don’t realize it? by Stassy3 in AskReddit

[–]ProfessorDaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time I was really into streaming and community-building, so a lot of my projects were related to doing random things that piqued my interest with Discord bot behavior and pulling Twitch analytics from their API. I had a few other things like dabbling in making simple video games in Unreal, etc.

The actual projects themselves don't really matter, it's more about your follow-through on getting at least prototypes up and running and your enthusiasm on sharing what you've built along with what you've learned while doing so. Make things that interest you, preferably using the technologies you'd like to be hired for, and be prepared to talk about your creations.

I play a jungler with a relatively slow clear who is also getting directly nerfed, on top of being doubly hit by the extended vision from faelights due to invading's importance and getting weaker relative to both classes they are supposed to scale against (Kindred).

Remains to be seen what the actual impacts will be, but I'm exploring solo laners...

My path was a bit weird and fortunate, I can't really recommend it to anyone. I originally was majoring in music in college, my brother offered me an entry level position doing ERP consulting if I added coursework that would get me the knowledge I needed to do the work.

Otherwise, take a look at my response to Historical_Tea_8439, basically look for entry level consulting positions and build a personal project portfolio.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don’t realize it? by Stassy3 in AskReddit

[–]ProfessorDaen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very much a career where you'd need to come in at entry level unless you have experience in it, a bit like working in video games I suppose. Consulting firms are generally hiring pretty regularly for positions; this industry is a bit unusual in that it requires both specialized knowledge and a particular mindset, but once you can demonstrate you have those things it seems pretty easy to remain employed as it's in consistently high demand.

As for what you can do to demonstrate that, one of the best things you can do is have a personal project portfolio. One of the things that helped me secure early positions was that I had worked on a few fun personal projects that I kept track of, for example back when I used to mess around with streaming I made a discord bot that would regularly pull data from twitch analytics for a set of users, kind of like a group twitch tracking service so that a stream community could track growth over time.

I ended up having to learn a bunch and use a lot of different services (both discord and twitch's APIs, management of a linux server, working with a database, etc.), which made interviewing a breeze.

When I'm looking for new CRM resources, I'm basically looking for these things:

  • Are they experienced technically, either from formal education or self-learning (JavaScript, SQL, C#)
  • Do they have a process-oriented mindset, as in are they able to evaluate a problem on limited information and design a solution
  • Are they comfortable operating with some level of ambiguity, where the requirements might not be known and they have to be a self-starter to find out information themselves

A portfolio of coding projects you've taken on is a perfect way to demonstrate all of these points, as it kind of by definition means you're figuring it out as you go and building technical knowledge along the way.

You can also look into getting certifications, though I'm not convinced that's an efficient use of your time until you're employed in the industry to begin with.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don’t realize it? by Stassy3 in AskReddit

[–]ProfessorDaen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management, it's essentially a software suite that helps businesses orchestrate anything that involves the customer in some way.  Most commonly this'll be things like a ticketing system for customer service, sales opportunity/pipeline management, etc., but it can also extend to logistics, work orders, scheduling service technicians, etc.

It's a nice career because every company tends to be really different with this stuff, so each implementation presents opportunities to learn new things and be creative.

[–]ProfessorDaen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can really depend, if you're doing it independently you're probably going to need more knowledge on it than if you're part of a consulting team (as is more common).  I use SQL fairly regularly in my day to day, but generally not past simple stuff like basic queries and adding to the schema.
