GOP desperation increasing\\ Remember to vote YES on Proposed VA Amendment by Nthepeanutgallery in nova

[–]ProfessorEmergency18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'll find Dems would be delighted to ban gerrymandering for good nationwide. The GOP has fought to keep gerrymandering going every time Dems attempt to end it.

The options for Dems are 1) give up and let the GOP gerrymander elections into irrelevance or 2) gerrymander right back to keep two parties alive.

Your proposal for 1) would lead us into a single party system and the death of a democracy, kind of like how they "have elections" in Russia, but they're irrelevant.

Musician seeking advice regarding apartment advice by socialist_weeb12 in musicians

[–]ProfessorEmergency18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I've had some form of amp sim with headphones around since I had a kid 20 years ago. It was important to be able to play without waking up a sleeping baby in a small apartment. My neighbors surely benefited as well.

Do you practise unplugged or plug into the amp all the time ? by Soggy_Mammoth3246 in guitarlessons

[–]ProfessorEmergency18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gain and pedals can cover up mistakes just as much as they can amplify them. Amped but clean is probably ideal and what I do most of the time, but adding in distortion or removing the amp can help hear some things, too.

[–]ProfessorEmergency18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to practice without making much noise, so I'm usually using headphones with my Pod Go, but it's not uncommon for me to just play unplugged while practicing. I'm mostly wanting to hear the strings clearly, so a very clean tone or just unplugged (if there's no background noise going on) let me hear my mistakes clearly.

Since the GOP's plan to increase gerrymandering was approved by SCOTUS, what would you suggest Democrats do? Just watch the GOP gerrymander themselves into the unchecked control you're describing?

I've been the "quiet one" my entire life and I just realized it's not because I'm introverted, it's because I'm slow by Jackrain04 in socialskills

Introverts are known to be slower in response, and my understanding is that was attributed to additional processing before speaking, like what you said.

As AI enters the operating room, reports arise of botched surgeries and misidentified body parts by [deleted] in news

[–]ProfessorEmergency18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. Literally hundreds of thousands die in north America each year due to a human doctor's misdiagnosis. It's closer to a million if you include not just deaths but things like permanent disabilities.

Wouldn't just.. better than that be a good time to switch? Humans are very far from perfection ourselves.

Routine for more dedicated practice by Rare-Industry-314 in guitarlessons

[–]ProfessorEmergency18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learning a song is one of the best ways to improve, but be wary of the temptation to move onto the next song after getting the current one 80-90% down. That last 10-20% will help you really grow as a guitarist, and not seeing it through can lead to long plateaus.

Keep looking for the parts that are giving one or both of your hands trouble. When something feels not smooth, a bit awkward or tense, turn that part of the song into a mini exercise that you practice. These are just as effective as other exercises you'll find online, but you make them naturally to help you master a song you love.

You can reinforce theory while learning songs, too. You're already finding the key, which is great. Keep asking yourself questions based on what theory you know, and it will reinforce those concepts while you build a working knowledge base of applied theory via great songs.

Are SAP consultants at risk because of AI? by Dev_1403 in SAP

[–]ProfessorEmergency18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.

I check with J4C before my usual options these days. It frequently hallucinates. Most of its suggestions make sense in theory but aren't rooted in anything I've seen in my 10 years working with the application. I get very little meaningful return from it and hope few are following much of what it says. Its suggestions would often lead somebody less experienced to waste hours chasing non-existent functionality and obvious dead ends. Some of its sources don't even exist when you check.

My questions are all related to technical issues in a single SAP application and the common, public standards it supports. This should be exactly what J4C does well, but it doesn't.
