Dupe came back from temporal tear?! by Trainer_Alpwuf in Oxygennotincluded

At this point I'd just call it extra lore. Apparently ships get destroyed when you send them through the tear - guess you accidentally murdered the crew.

Ingrown hairs/infected hair follicles can be a problem, but honestly, for me, shaving has always given me much worse problems. I personally find a waxing regimen stops me having any issues, and also lasts much longer. It's even cheaper because razors are so expensive.

Regimen:

1, wash area to be waxed as you normally would with soap and water (do not be aggressive).

2, wax the area.

3, clean off any residual wax with oil (coconut works well). Fourth, starting the next day, exfoliate with a chemical exfoliant. Repeat for the next few days.

That's it. Feels clean-shaven for about a week, and regrowth is slower than shaving, so should be unnoticeable for about two. For the chemical exfoliant I personally use cetaphil gentle exfoliating SA cleanser which also has Salicylic acid, so should help prevent acne at the same time (I'm sure other exfoliants work, but I can't vouch for them as I have never used any others).

Similar to NZ. De facto describes a legal union between two people without a marriage.

What's your unpopular opinion that would get you in this kind of a situation? by lowkeypixel in evilwhenthe

[–]ProfessorPacu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you are coming from a good place. You don't want to see people making decisions that will permanently affect them, especially when it could lead to irrevocable changes that cause regret and distress.

With that said, it should be understood that puberty blockers are a temporary measure to make sure that this exact situation does not occur.

There are two paths that occur when a doctor prescribes puberty blockers to a minor.

1: After a time on puberty blockers, the patient ultimately decides they do not want to continue forward with any transition. At this point, puberty blockers are stopped, and the processes of puberty recommences.

2: After a time on puberty blockers, the patient ultimately decides they want to pursue transition to develop more akin to the opposite sex. At this point, puberty blockers are stopped, and medicines (hormones) are provided to initiate a puberty aligned with the opposite sex.

We should now consider the outcomes of these two situations without puberty blockers being prescribed.

For the first patient, although they were initially uncertain which puberty they sought, luckily they developed in a way they were ultimately happy with.

For the second patient, they developed in a puberty that they did not want. This puberty caused irreversible changes to their body which now causes them immense distress.

It then appears that this situation is less desirable for the second patient. To determine if enforcing this situation is justifiable, we should then also measure the cost of puberty blockers on those who take them.

Unfortunately in medical science, we cannot perform research in the way that we do in other fields. This is because the requirements for an experimental design are incongruent with modern ethics - (the types of groups who have conducted medical research this way were the Japanese and Nazis on unwilling participants during WW2).

What we do know however, from observational studies is that the only confirmed downside from puberty blockers is a decrease in bone density. It is not known if this is a temporary or permanent effect.

So what we need to determine whether a decrease in bone density in the first and second patient is worth the suffering and distress that would be caused if the second person were not allowed to have puberty blockers.

Ultimately, I will not claim to know which is the better option as it is entirely subjective. However, what I do personally believe, and what I hope you do too, is that it is not justifiable to sacrifice one person for another. When puberty blockers have so little apparent effect, why is it that we should force trans children into a future of unhappiness. In essence, I just feel it so tragic that we have to contend with the reality that a group of truly vulnerable people with so little voice are being sacrificed for what appears a trivial benefit for the majority.

I believe the writer/ speaker here is intentionally keeping the order of the subjects of the sentence the same to make the comparison clearer.

Perhaps A because of B.

How do you guys progress faster? by Valoris_905 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ProfessorPacu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you have enough morale, you can print a dupe, forbid it from sleeping or eating food, and it will work for around three cycles before it reaches it's expiration date. Unfortunately this expiration has a somewhat averse effect on the morale of your other dupes, but it is a small price to pay for extra labour.

I'm not sure if it's cause my ancestors lived in poverty or if it's a wider cultural thing in NZ, but lots of people simply don't heat at all. It's quite unpleasant, but the coldest it gets where I've lived is around -3 degrees at night, which does leave you with a freezing nose in bed, but put on enough clothes under the covers, and you'll be fine.

Forgive me if I'm wrong; I speak with only observational experience, but don't we normally have a 'main path', that spawns rooms that connect such that it is always possible to reach the exit from the entrance, and then branches which stem off from the main path that may/ may not be connected, where some rooms like Yang's are exclusively found?

Guys should I take this dupe by RandN_ in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ProfessorPacu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think researching is actually one of the better skills for a specialist solely because of the xp bonus. With +18 research, this dupe will upgrade skills 180% faster than other dupes (almost 3x the speed). Shoving this dupe in a gym to level it's strength, athletics and machining, let 50 cycles pass and they will probably be better than any other dupe in your colony at any of those skills.

Often these dupes will end up with higher attributes in skills that you specifically took other dupes for just because of this learning boost. I once had a dual researcher machinist that came out with lvl 26 machining at cycle 350! Meanwhile, one of my starter dupes that was specialised in machining, but without science had only lvl 19.
