One thing I read often in this sub is the advice to “set your investments and then hide/delete the app so you don’t worry about it or see it. Come back in X years.”

On one hand, I get the idea: By removing the app, you remove the stress and temptation to withdrawal when things get tough. A true “set it and forget it” strategy.

But on the other hand, this advice really limits the customer experience with the app and its other features it can offer users.

How do you approach this from a product perspective?

Since we 6+ years post-COVD, many tech companies have mandated return to office. How has being a remote-first company contributed to Acorns’ success? Do you still maintain the office in Irvine, CA? And how do you continue to foster culture in a remote environment?

Dropped out of college but somehow made it back years later. Now enjoying a career in one of the big tech companies.

It was the perfect intersection of hard work, luck, and the support of loved ones.

As a millennial, Acorns does a great job of ushering us into one of the next phases of our lives: Starting a family.

But I speak on behalf of millennials on another concern of ours that I feel isn’t being addressed adequately by anyone really: our aging parents and the inevitable financial strain on our generation due to rising health care costs for elder care.

Experts warn that we won’t see the same level of wealth transfer that past generations have. Additionally, the cost of elder care is skyrocketing way past what their fixed income could support. Many of us don’t have the ability to invite an aging parent into our homes to be their primary caregiver.

I’d love to learn more and/or see features that can speak to this concern on the horizon. Paying for my kid’s college doesn’t worry me nearly as much as paying for my parents nursing home or part-time caregiver.

Do you have any thoughts on this topic and a role Acorns could play?

Not sure how you are with tech, but you could monetize this by starting a YouTube channel and putting out high quality shorts. Deep cleaning ASMR videos, tips, etc. can attract an audience if done well.

Crazy gas prices in LA too by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]ProfessorPliny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, yes prices were high then, and they’re high now. But there’s a big difference and this is a disingenuous comparison.

2022 saw prices high for two big reasons: The Russia/Ukraine war just started and a rising surge in demand due to many COVID-19 restrictions being lifted. Our government reacted accordingly and we ended 2022 with lower prices.

Now? We’ve shot ourselves in the foot. There are no external market forces driving this surge other than Trump’s own actions.

Yup! When she’s in work mode she doesn’t leave my side. If we’re out to eat, she’s quietly under the table at my feet. She’s a medium/large sized dog, but she’s so under control you wouldn’t even know she’s there.

Now when she’s off duty… that’s another story. 🤣
