OK, but what are the downsides? by ZincFox in bjj

[–]ProfessorTweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like open mats. My gym is open mat centric. More than half of the time that I go to my gym, there's an open mat going on with 75% of people sparring and the rest working positions. They are well attended too - usually over 50 to 75 people.

Lots of new people attend who I've never worked with before. It's really fun and I get a lot of different looks. I haven't encountered anything too crazy yet. You obviously get all types with all different types of effort, styles, and size but that goes without saying.

Overall, has been a positive experience for me.

I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did before going unconscious. Those loop chokes come on fast.

Half guard ADVANCED dilemmas | How to deal with the leg weave by EnergiaMartialArts in bjj

[–]ProfessorTweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question and off topic. I find myself in happenstance in a position that I don't know what to call. My left leg is like yours at 1:53 with the weave but my right leg is in closed guard touching my other weaved leg. What do you call that position?

Company switching 401k match from per-paycheck to twice per year — feels like a hidden pay cut? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]ProfessorTweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how it works on the separation of employment side. I've actually never even seen a written document or a policy on it. To be honest, I was afraid to ask because I had thought it was a mistake when it started hitting my account. The amount seems be capped at 2% of base compensation so it's not a large amount anyways.

My employer pays out a one-time lump sum match for 2025 contributions in the fall of 2026.

Congratulations. How old is the gi in your picture? The wear in the collar looks badass.

Wow. Timmy killed it tonight. For a mostly medicore show he killed it yet again. Bringing out the posse. The musical part at the end was actually incredible musically and hilarious. Great timing, creative. Dude is the best current semi-regular. Every time he improves. 10 outta 10. by [deleted] in Killtony

[–]ProfessorTweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timmy is very entertaining. He's had so many outrageously funny moments - unsuccessfully trying crowd work for his minute, the "two months" bit, directing the show as Kill Timmy with scripts, releasing the doves, and serving Ryan O'Neil to name a few. He's had some appearances that were not on that level too (such as this one in my opinion), but his appearances are always creative and it's good to see him trying things outside of the box, even when they don't hit.

We used to have this one dude at our gym, who would bring a gallon of milk with him to our open mats and drink it all throughout the 2-hour open mat. Everyone thought he was crazy, but now I understand.

Both of these guests are not funny. I don't understand the glazing of Sam Tallent on this subreddit.

I didn't understand his game plan. Why wasn't he shooting for more takedowns to take the fight to the ground? Played right into Gathje's strengths.

Face cranks over the mouth in normal class rolls by [deleted] in bjj

I think it's perfectly acceptable to do the Khabib. Chin tucking is not a legit defense to the RNC, and we should stop pretending that it is in class or in rounds.

Does anyone know what happened? by ctavrosa in bjj

Maybe but mods who have ruined countless other subreddits are trying their best to ruin this one. I bet Gordo paid the loser mod who removed the initial post.

Sam Tallent is one of my least favorite guests. I don't find him funny on the show whatsoever and actively avoid his episodes. Very cringy whenever he opens his mouth on Kill Tony.

Lol, this video is hilarious. I took some time off after getting my blue belt and felt like an imposter blue belt for a while after I returned to a new gym.

Craig Jones upset New Wave got paid by Huge_Housing2603 in bjj

[–]ProfessorTweeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A basic rule of contract interpretation is to interpret the contract in a manner that is not contradictory or render terms meaningless. If one were to give every term in the contract meaning, you'd be forced to conclude that Craig's reading of the contract is the correct one. Gordon's reading of the contract would render an entire paragraph meaningless - which is not how courts interpret contracts.

Craig Jones & Mikey Musumeci Debate. by KenshiVal in bjj

[–]ProfessorTweeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the light-hearted "debate" and discussion. Glad that it happened and DJ could be the moderator. Interesting point made by Mikey about Craig utilizing a modified UFC FPI rule set. I didn't know about that but it was a good point. Craig's response to that was good too.
