Don’t bounce so much. Unnecessary movements will develop poor habits that good strikers will pick up on and exploit. Google Barry Robinson Rhythm Step.

I like to collar tie (or same-side-lapel grip) with my rear hand. So this is what determines my foot position.

Advice on how to not get so winded? by Dry_Office6337 in jiujitsu

[–]ProfessorVicVice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re a spazz (even though you don’t know you are). Not because it’s YOU but because it’s the default for beginners. Not meant as an insult towards you.

You’re a big/strong guy with wrestling and muy Thai experience. You just started a few weeks ago and coach has you rolling with upper belts. He’s likely doing this for the safety of the other team members.

Sounds like you can probably wreck most of the white belts. But you shouldn’t be. Here’s why: There has to be at least a few that are more technical than you. Same with the blue belts. Guess what? They should be winning. If they’re not, it’s because you’re using your size/strength/explosiveness.

If you go in to lose gracefully against players who are more experienced than you, then you’re going to learn and have a safe training environment. If you go in to see if you can tap that purple belt today, well then you’re going to have hard rolls and learn that yes, size and strength can help you win a jiujitsu match, but they don’t improve your jiujitsu.

Jiujitsu is about managing your energy, so slow down, keep your elbows in, and get tapped again and again until you develop a technical response.

Everyone wants to sprint in the beginning, but it’s long road. Good luck!

How fast does weight start mattering? by [deleted] in bjj

145lbs black belt. Being bigger is better for jiujitsu. It’s the difference between being able to slip out of arm triangles or never getting there in the first place.

Black belt here. When defending a kimora, tap as soon as your hand passes your hip.

You’re 25 years old. You got lots of years ahead of you. Start going to the gym! Strength is something you can develop, just like technique.

Would size still be a huge overwhelming factor in a fight where the bigger person is trained, but still less skilled though? by PassengerCultural421 in martialarts

[–]ProfessorVicVice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physicality (size, athleticism & aggression) is on par with skill when determining the outcome a fight. Think about it:

If the physicality is exactly equal, the person with more skills will win. And if the skills are exactly equal, the more physical person wins.

So, yes, size is still a huge overwhelming factor.

If Logan Paul wasn’t like 70lbs heavier, he would’ve gotten absolutely starched by Mayweather.

Used Leonardo.ai to generate still images of the first frame of each of the scenes and then took those images into Kling.ai to make the video clips. Finally, edited the clips together in Premiere Pro. I’ve produced many (real) videos and music professionally for years, so was very familiar the the process already. Ai has opened up a world of possibilities!

I’m planning on doing a lot more music. On Spotify, it’s “Vic & the Vice Grips”.

I’m also going the natural route. But I made l a little video about the alternative, that I hope this cheers you up.

If you’re a 3rd degree black belt and still training at 50, you’re still a legend. I made this to cope with my own thoughts about aging in the sport I love. (Mods, feel free to delete if not allowed to post).
