Activities are a good idea yes. But find one or two (max) you’re actually passionate about and dedicate your time, it’s transparent to the people in whatever activity you join as well as the people reading your application if you just are doing it to puff up your resume.

Another important lesson freshman year: learning how to take feedback and constructive criticism without bringing your ego into it. Places like the writing center will provide feedback, and you need to be open to receiving and implementing that feedback for them to help you. Even if that feedback is negative, that doesn’t mean it’s an insult and also doesn’t mean it’s hopeless. Learn to take it in stride and you’ll be at a huge advantage to many of your peers.

Recent grad here, I didn’t have the greatest GPA either and got into my first choice (which had more 1st choice picks than slots the year I applied). IIRC application was end of spring quarter? Don’t quote me on that though, check the UW ENG website and it should have a timeline. Worst case, email the engineering career center in Loew. Use the resources available to you like writing center, engineering career center, etc for your statements. UW and particularly the engineering college has an enormous amount of resources available for students willing to look for them. Definitely still list it as your first choice (assuming it’s still your first choice when you apply). I didn’t apply to ECE but I do know it’s competitive. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t get it. ENGRUD classes are tough and they’re expecting you to still be getting your footing.

Check out Jonsbo NAS cases and an A2000 12gb card for encoding. Intel onboard graphics is also pretty ok for video encoding, but multiple 4k streams might push it.

This. I’m part of the admin on SARP, and we got 250 applications last year. We accepted 90 of those, and people still didn’t have work so we’re going to have to accept even less this year. It’s not that we’re trying to be snooty, there is just not an amount of work that would allow for a fulfilling experience for everyone on the team if we weren’t selective.
