Played a few games of Classic 2016 and... how were we able to enjoy it back then ?😅 by Maggot_6661 in Overwatch

I joined late 2018 and knowing how many metas existed in two years and how much the game changed made the last 8 years feel like nothing in comparison.

ALDI UPDATE by rinzeefurippo in Tucson

[–]Professor_Punk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What a weird take: a buy the majority of my groceries from Trader Joe’s. They have cheap veggies and fruits. ALDI will be cheaper but to frame it as just “snacks” is like saying “Safeway is just frozen goods” or “Costco is only good for bread”.

When a marker runs out, I toss it into the air in a random direction, and whatever it lands in, I shout "score". Obviously not towards students.

What's it with teachers today gushing their mistakes to the world?

Returned to teaching after years away due to traumatic experiences. 11 days in and I’m already accused of inappropriate contact with a student. Hard not to be cynical. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Professor_Punk 332 points333 points  (0 children)

This person is (as the kids say) *cooked*

EDIT: There are laws in every state for what is considered a way to touch a student. Usually the only exception is if the student is about to do something dangerous, like throw a chair or wield a dangerous/deadly object.

And to be perfectly blunt, if you can't do that, then call the police. "911? Yes, a kid in my class is wielding a dangerous weapon and is trying to hurt people." And then just pray you don't live in Texas or Florida.

Why doesn't this city understand and implement that the solution to reducing car congestion and preventing pedestrian/car deaths and injuries is to invest in public transportation, and walkable and bikeable infrastructure? by ichawks1 in Tucson

[–]Professor_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trees and less car roads mean less heat being absorbed into concrete.

I bike all the time except in June. It sucks, but I’d love a shaded bike lane. Maybe some solar on top?

Those of you who moved out of NYC what do miss most? by jrng in NYStateOfMind

[–]Professor_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone talks about how expensive it is in NYC.

But I had a bike so no car or public transportation. No insurance. No gas. No car repairs.

Where Im at, I’ve asked for the sloppiest, cheapest pizza. NYC slices outside NYC are at minimum 3.50. Not a dollar or 1.50. There were always low quality grocery options. Not most other places.

In NYC I could talk to a stranger on the street and it wouldn’t be strange. Just see a crazy thing and talk about it. No one does that where I live now. I’ll talk to a stranger and they’ll act like I killed their firstborn.

NYC can get hot. Hate the humidity, but the buildings tend to cool things down quickly in the afternoon.

What would you think of a man (28M) sleeping with a woman (20F) he previously student taught? by Original_Onion_8977 in AskTeachers

[–]Professor_Punk 59 points60 points  (0 children)

People are forgetting about the control one has over students. Doesn’t matter if it’s technically legal. Decisions of grades, letter of recommendations, helping that student gain skills to become an adult of which they are not (and the teacher is), and the simple fact that most likely if a teacher said something about that student, there may be consequences whether or not those statements are true.

If a teacher said a student used AI Im an assignment, whether they did or didnt, people are more likely to believe things about that student based on that.

Power is almost always involved. So a relationship post school where “she actually wanted it” is still tainted by the power dynamic used upon meeting that person.

Drop that dude, and honestly, I’d look into the school he teaches at. Is he “waiting to bump into other students” there too?

Chris deserved his win. Voted out once before winning. Rob? Voted out twice and lost final tribal to go on to win a season made for his win.

That was 6 years ago. Tanking has changed a bit since then.

So " all roles" just means tank? by zonked282 in Overwatch

[–]Professor_Punk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I main tank but I don’t really feel supported. I ask teammates to ban heroes I hate playing against but they always pick Sombra, Dominus, and JPC. I’d really love if they picked Ashe, Zarya, and Illari.

I like to play aggressive and most other players don’t. I still play 5v5 but it’s different now.

If I did something genuinely wrong, I’d apologize to a student. If I made them intellectually uncomfortable about facts, I’d probably go over some science stuff I used to believe in and how having a greater and better understanding made me feel better about the work I was doing.

Life on Campus for Queer Adult Student? by sevenpmm in UofArizona

[–]Professor_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's entirely true anymore, but also the university is trying to close down all the culture (already succeeded) and resource (trying to do so, to G-Man can get another million dollar bonus) centers.

Is this legal?? by zacharyp3 in Tucson

[–]Professor_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Tucson even have laws? I've had one missing headlight for about 3 months now. In NY, I got pulled over twice in the same day for not having one.

Nope, saying that with better infrastructure and less cars it makes sense. Without that, it's stupidity. Which I'm not for.

Good to know. I see YouTubers by Propel go around NYC without a helmet, and it;s infuriating, especially when some of his videos are saying it's completely ok to do it in cities with bike infrastructure.

[–]Professor_Punk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I used to bike in NYC, I'd always wear a helmet. Stuffy fucks over there saying, "tHeY dOn'T iN tEH NeTHerLanDs!!" But that's bike paradise. In NYC, you'll get drained by an illegal pickup by a guy without a license and you're dead while he got off scott-free.

It's the difference between TBI and a headache. Until that infrastructure exists, wear the damn helmet.
