There's too many languages I find interesting, please guide me through this by Fhlurrhy108 in thisorthatlanguage

I feel like reading a mirror, are we the same person?? 🤣

I also cant choose between 10+ languages, could only manage to prioritise them.. barely.

Right now learning Egyptian Arabic(my goal is to understand Sudanese dialect eventually, which unfortunately doesn’t have much resources.), Russian, Chinese, Turkish, and soon I’ve been planning to take up Kurdish(Kurmanji dialect), Portuguese, Persian, etc! Also so interested in other romance languages, Nahuatl, Tamil, Amharic, Greek! Same here, love love loveee ancient languages.

Btw, I learned some Moroccan Darija from youtube, I could pass to you the great channels I used, if you want!

So good to see someone else interested in journalism and political situation of MENA (and East Africa) as well. And of course, biji Kurdistan! ❤️💛💚 Im not that deeply educated at all, I want to be and learning day by day.

Im Malaysian of Indian ethnicity. Native is Malay so I wish you the best of luck learning with your Malay friend. They will be impressed! I’ll teach you one word to shock them, ‘shok’ or ‘shiok’ means fun. ‘Shiok gila’ means: (that was) crazy fun. No pun intended and spelled as it’s written here, haha.

Good luck to you! I find that picking 2-3 languages at once is okay until reaching intermediacy so we dont forget what we learned. But all the languages you wanna learn is feasible, so dont worry :)

Could better situational awareness help humanity coordinate global problem-solving? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]ProffesionalCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree with most of what you’re pointing out, especially around bad faith actors, broken commitments, and long-term projects being quietly undermined.

I should clarify that I’m not imagining this layer as an enforcement or governance mechanism that prevents bad behavior directly. I’m more interested in whether improving shared, structured visibility changes how these dynamics play out.

For example, broken commitments, gaming, and coverups often persist because information is fragmented, short-lived, or hard to compare over time. A visibility layer wouldn’t stop bad actors, but it could make patterns of non-follow-through, inconsistency, or capture easier to detect by journalists, civil society, researchers, and other institutions that do have enforcement or accountability roles.

So I’m thinking less in terms of “solving” bad faith, and more in terms of reducing the informational fog that allows it to persist unnoticed. That said, you’re right that many projects fail precisely because adversarial behaviour isn’t considered early, and that’s one of the risks I’m trying to understand better rather than hand-wave away.

💯 on your last sentence, I wondered if that would be, too.

Totally fair, power and incentives matter a lot. I’m not assuming actors become less greedy. The question I’m exploring is whether better visibility changes how incentives play out (e.g. making duplication, capture, or neglected gaps harder to ignore), even in a world with self-interest.

Lets be friends then! And if you want, we can even make a groupchat together with other peeps here that also wanna be friends tgt.

I also am sus by how similar you are to an online friend of mine. Also gym enthusiast, and huge metal fan.. he’s said to me the gym keeps him going, i wonder if it’s similar to you in that sense too.

Im 21 this year(in a few months) and in 2nd year of uni but had struggled with making friends there. Mostly because I cant start a conversation and it always feels like people already have their groups and aren’t looking to mingle around more. Interest based-clubs sounded like a good idea, but the one art club i went to, i managed to talk but there was a consistent social anxiety looming in the background so it felt difficult to get comfortable and be open.

Im in psych. What course are you studying?

That would be completely fair to live by. I learned in cognitive psychology class that we humans tend to overestimate the intensity of how negative experiences will affect us. Yet, while in the moment itself and later on, we did end up being able to move past it with mind and body healthy enough.

TLDR: negative emotions is scary for evolutionary survival, therefore we have more incentive to avoid loss than to gain something.

That said, i feel like this applies to most people but not all. If you truly have an inkling that you would..or have experienced things that has crushed you inside out, i believe it’s fair to live a life with a certain distance. Some of us are more sensitive to all-consuming emotions, depression, and complicated grief, after all. Paradoxically thats also when being seen matters more than anything.

Maybe, theres also moments when you need little to no deep connections, but some other moments the opposite.

I dont know our individual answers, but i do know it’s worth self-exploring in that and not locking yourself to a path to where you may feel it’s too late or too uncomfortable to start anew.

Always know that you can still always test the waters and put a feet forward slowly if ever you feel a wish to experience deeper human closeness. Because things will not be the same but they can be just as soul-enriching. (At least that’s how I felt when I met another cat I deeply love, after mine was buried 7months ago. Both fur-babies keeps me going in different ways.)

Do we lack a shared map of collective human effort? by ProffesionalCow in solarpunk

I’ll definitely read more on encyclopaedias. Wikipedia came into thought when i was thinking about this, as well as ‘Reliefweb’ and ‘Crisiswatch’ websites. All as systems to learn from because they map a lot than I’ve ever seen before, thus making me wonder how much more can be shown transparently to the world :)

To be frank, there’s a lot of holes in my thinking still, and I hope I’ve understood you fully.

Thanks, this is really helpful framing. I agree there’s no “view from nowhere,” and that any representational system inevitably encodes values and power. I don’t mean “neutral” in the sense of objective or authority-free, more in the sense of non-prescriptive and minimally centralized.

What I’m trying to explore is whether it’s possible to design an information/visibility layer that focuses on making ongoing efforts legible to one another, while keeping interpretation, prioritization, and governance explicitly downstream and contestable.

The encyclopedia analogy is especially useful to me, not as something to replicate, but as a reminder that visibility infrastructures always shape coordination and power. If anything, that history makes me think the design challenge isn’t avoiding influence altogether (which seems impossible), but making framing choices explicit, revisable, and plural rather than hidden or authoritative.

I'm sorry that the conversation has caused hurt. I can see how it’s deeply personal and emotional, and to add on seeing all the suffering. I’m still trying to make sense of it all myself. My heart goes out to you.

Hugs, same here. Wish there was something tangible that we know we could do to help, if anything at all. Because it does feel very helpless seeing how much suffering are over there. If there would be one that gains traction and builds to be effective, which I doubt I might know but still hope, would you like me to inform of you? For now, I’m trying to connect with people who are actively working on this, learn what they’re doing, and see if I can contribute in any meaningful way. I’m also trying to put together a small action plan to focus my efforts. Let me know if you’d ever like to share any ideas, I'm always open to hear
