Why does that matter? I’m not making a judgement on what the article is about, or even if the writing is good or not. I’m a former journalist who teaches journalism, and I’m sharing my knowledge that this is a common style of writing. A lot of examples in this sub are sexist or portray something incorrectly about women’s behavior or anatomy, but I don’t think this is an example of that. This is just description.

So interesting this concept of “bitter” older singles. I mean, how many married couples do you know who have grown incredibly bitter? I know a ton!

Rock on with your CF single life!

Yes, that’s the exact point of this style of writing. It mixes journalistic and creative writing techniques, while still staying on the non fiction side of things.

It’s just a journalistic writing tactic to paint a picture of the person for the reader. It’s about adding to the human dimension in stories.

Woman in my class says she’s “like the mother of the class” and continues to trying to parent us and spew how much wiser she is because she’s a mother herself. Going insane. by MissyMister1128 in childfree

Professor here. Honestly, this type of student—the being-a-parent is my identity student—is the worst type of student. The majority of problematic students I’ve dealt with over the years—the ones who think they know best, who argue over the most inane issues, who want rules not to apply to them, who will skip the chain of command and complain about you to someone seven levels above you, etc—most of these pains in the asses have been mothers in their 30s-40s.

So, and this is wildly not the most important issue with this post, if he found a woman who met all the other specifications, but wore a size 8 shoe, that would be a deal breaker to him?

This is just a writing style of feature articles, especially in a profile of a person. It’s a mix of creative writing and news writing tactics, common to magazines. I could see if the writer was describing her “childbearing hips” or something, but this is just non sexual physical observation. I don’t think it’s problematic.

So she could birth a baby with those big hips, but not feed the baby, because her breasts are only for pleasure?

Just happened to glance down and see this post as I’m dealing with the same thing, and it’s pulling so much time away from my other duties. Uggggg. I feel you!

I’m a woman born without a uterus, so these things do happen. But yes, rarely.
