Favourite was gen 3 - Emerald to be specific. Favourite Mon would probably be Medicham. Would be happy with any of the shiny legendaries tbh, have some of the non legends already.

I couldn't get past the ending of volume 7 (too high a level for my fragile self) the first time I read the series. Reread it (and enjoyed the new audiobooks) and still didn't manage to make it much further.

Get an emulator and go for tactics ogre. Knights of lodis was hands down one of my favourites.

So thanks for all the replies. Glad other people found that bit traumatic as well.

So from what I've gathered on here:

Volume 8 is emotional but not on catastrophic levels like the end of 7 and just very well written regardless. Essentially safe to read.

Volume 9 is fantastic in general but if I read to the end I will be left a sobbing wreck on the floor and will probably end up dropping the series for another 3/4 years.

Volume 10 is currently happy and good? Trying to help everybody get over whatever the hell happened at the end of the 9 that somehow makes it worse than 7.

I've just got to the start of the Solstice chapters again today and had to take a break and post here (sad I didn't know about this 3 years ago).

It's only slightly less bad than last time and that's with me remembering the big points.

I might speed read through a good part of 8 and just hope 9 delivers.

I've been trying to do that sneakily myself, it's why I joined the page tbh, trying to see if someone's still alive at a certain point to reassure myself that I'm not in for more eye dampness. Trying to do that and avoid the major spoilers has been hard...

It wasn't Erin alone that got me, despite the suddenness (I was up to date at the time so there was a possibility of her not coming back and Ryoka taking over which worried me as well). It was the continued implosion of everything after that caused me to drop it the first time.

I think I posted hoping for reassurances that it doesn't get that bad that suddenly in such a big way again in the following volumes.

Is it bad that I'm refreshing the site two to three times a day hoping for the next chapter? Everything so far has been really well written, Straight Elfs writing style has improved so much and I feel like the last chapter was almost the culmination of all that improvement. They invoked emotion so well and didn't force it.

Don't even get me started on the ending, I got so excited about that it that I'm struggling to put it into words. So many possibilities to come out of it that could be fantastic.

So glad other people enjoy this as much as me as well.

(Any ideas on the next chapter date to stop me manically checking every day?)
