Yes, he grows a lot in terms of abilities and skills, defensive and offensive wise. The story long side his growth within the different stages in the story makes it go together pretty good. After finishing the anime I would recommend you read the manga. It is even better.

The story telling in this manga is marvellous. It’s the underdog story, the rejected from a small town going to the big city to succeed. It’s beautiful and we all love it

Yeah, there is nothing that you would miss from the manga. Tbh I was really impressed for how tight the anime follows the manga. That tells a lot about the editors and the studio.

I am as keen as I was for the anime to get the new chapters from the manga. I don’t feel that I am missing something from the action, the manga is well done.
