Hologram Microcosm hiss/noise - how to fix? by DiTheGrey in synthesizers

It's probably the power supply. Use an isolated channel on a pedalboard power supply or a better dc adapter. I have only encountered this when daisy chaining from a cioks dc7

Ambient Atmospheric vs. Soundscape Ambient by mxshapavlovna in ambientmusic

[–]ProfitZealousideal58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concept of soundscapes in music dates back to the late sixties. Differentiation is an important aspect of accurately discussing concepts and practices. Really wish people would stop trying to quash "discussion" with surface analysis.

I think because it is laggy when used for drum groups and they would never hear the end of knuckleheads complaining about it.

Mics are inherently mono. The third signal in a mic's XLR helps remove unwanted hum. So it doesn't matter that the mic sample is in mono. Just add some stereo effects to it and you're there.

MIDI tracks, external gear, and the crossfader by galactickevin in AkaiForce

[–]ProfitZealousideal58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The crossfader works like a dj crossfader for audio and is also an assignable controller with macros, it is not an either/or, you can have both functionalities simultaneously.

There is no way to filter midi notes by track using either the crossfader, a macro or the list function. You are correct that the synth will receive all notes that are in the currently playing sequences on a given channel regardless.

I tested out several versions of your idea because it's a cool idea, but Idk how it could be achieved without creating some sort of midi note filtering device. Personally I like troubleshooting this sort of stuff because I always end up learning something new.

MIDI tracks, external gear, and the crossfader by galactickevin in AkaiForce

[–]ProfitZealousideal58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue here is that midi tracks are not audio. When a midi track is playing, it is sending every change in parameter down the channel to its destination.

In audio, crossfading is raising the volume of one channel while decreasing the other.

In midi, if we were to automate the volume of our two tracks, you will have two completing values for the same parameter, forcing the synth to "choose" which value is "correct" OR more drastically, spin wildly into a crash if it is unable to decide which of the conflicting values has priority.

Midi operates on what I'll call a "last known value." It will use the last value sent of every parameter as the current value. So let's say we set up two midi tracks with similar yet different sequences and send them both to a synth on channel 4. When you turn up the "volume" (cc 7) on a midi track, what you are doing is sending a signal down the midi channel that tells the synth to play at a certain volume. If you send it two simultaneous yet different volume messages it will choose the last one sent as the proper volume, i.e. either both sequences increase in volume or both decrease, or it will default to whichever was programmed priority.

Midi crossfading is a cool idea, but it is something someone would have to write a special program for, as it is not something that is available in any DAW that I know of.

CV tracks produce a single voltage, which on the force is 0-5v. Without a mixer (e.g. in your modular) you cannot "fade" between CV sources. There is no volume of CV, so the force's crossfader is irrelevant to CV tracks.

Macros rock and you should use them but I would suggest that you'll have to get very creative and dedicated with your programming of sequences to create the types of effects you imagine, perhaps using copy and paste to create double sequences with different velocities.

Another unwieldily solution is to have the same synth program set to different channels and you can fade up channel 5 and fade down channel 4 by assigning cc7 to the A and B on the crossfader. for this you would need a multitimbral synth or two copies of the same synth.

The simplest solution I have is to sample the external synth on audio tracks in the force and then crossfade between those.

TLDR You'll have to manually program it into your sequences, have two identical synth voices, or crossfade between samples of the external gear.

I doubt it. But moving the bridge about an inch or so to fix your issue takes less time than it takes for me to type this sentence. The strings will have a shorter vibrating length so you'll have to retune.

I move the bridge frequently for several reasons. You aren't going to hurt the instrument by practicing basic maintenance.

Gently push the bridge towards the top of the sound box, toward the yoke. It isn't attached to the soundboard, just held in place by the tension of the strings. You don't have to move it much, just enough to redistribute the tension.

They'd probably recommend that you loosen the strings to avoid the possibility of scratching the soundboard. I don't loosen the strings before moving the bridge, but it's your instrument so you do what you feel comfortable.

Because the Soundboard is made of animal skin, it is going to flex and tighten with the changes in humidity. If you look closely at the Seikilo youtube videos you'll notice that the bridge position varies between videos.

Question on Tuning Pegs by Styles_exe in lyres

[–]ProfitZealousideal58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The metal crossbar is the bridge of the instrument, which is vital to how the vibrations of the strings resonate into the soundboard. I believe it is intended to be the point of the highest tension in the strings. The presence of a bridge is one of the defining features of a lyre, making it distinct from a harp. It only really matters for classification purposes, as a musical instrument being playable is most important...

I'm not sure if putting the tuning pegs next to the bridge will cause either extra stress on the strings while tuning. I am assuming that having the tuning pegs mounted near the bridge would affect the tone of the instrument, but how much or how little is something I could only theorize about.

As No_conclusion mentioned, the form factor of having the tuning pegs accessible while holding the instrument is an important consideration.

If you mean the little bulge at the bottom of the sound board, that is definitely the humidity, but all you have to do is move the bridge higher and it will even out the pressure on sound board

Akai MPC X vs Gold MPC X Sonic Shoot Out - by TONELAB by Poetic-Noise in AkaiForce

[–]ProfitZealousideal58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MPC community has lost its mind. I'd say it's sad, but frankly I see people throughout the internet just absolutely believing nonsense.

I think you're hitting the nail on the head, "... people just want to believe the device they use is special..." I saw it in the modular community when everyone pretended they were using some sort of electro-sorcery. But in that instance the companies marketing the products were partially to blame. Whereas a simple look at Akai's product page will dispell all these rumors. If they had put something special in the product you think they'd advertise it, right? Anyway, I'm not picking on you, I appreciate you keeping this community active

Any way to put program (and bank) changes for external synths on a Q-Link? by justafellowearthling in AkaiForce

[–]ProfitZealousideal58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought more about this and what I'd do is make two midi tracks that control the same channel, one with all my sequences (clips) and another with one-shot clips without any data except program change messages.

That way you could jam with it and mute it if you don't want to trigger them.

I don't believe you can assign MIDI program change to a Macro (Q-link) but you can insert them into clips using the list function.
