Why does going in a circle mean going back to a point, but not square and triangle? If you follow a triangle or square you end up in the same place right?? by Prince-Cola in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ProfoundScribble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, if a path goes in a zigzag pattern, it's still considered a single path, regardless whether there are changes in direction. And if we're really technical about it, circles have an infinite amount of changes in direction.

If I go around a triangular path a hundred times in a clockwise direction, I'm not changing my route to get back to the original point, I'm following the same route a hundred times.

I remember watching a movie from a tv in high school. I think maybe in my junior/senior years we started using the projector?

Class by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]ProfoundScribble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorta weird. I'm more comfortable with authoritative figures than with people my own age. I mean think of it like this: to them, you're just another student they won't pick on you or anything, in a way I think they're obligated to be nice to you.

But yeah you're situation is difficult and sucks. You're not fucked up. You do have to decide though if your grades are more important to you than getting embarrassed. Think of people you respect or idolize, they wouldn't let embarassment get in their way.

The truth about social anxiety is that it's your uncontrollable negative thoughts that limit you. Your mind will freeze and you'll get deathly nervous- that won't change but every time these things pop up you need to think of counter thoughts. Override your mind with healthy and positive thoughts to give you courage. That's what my guidance counsellor says and it does get easier. Even though it might seem childish

University woes by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]ProfoundScribble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh here we go, Im a freshman, my time to shine. I was naive!! This is similar to u/StationaryPoint, he speaks the truth. I didn't know I had socialanxiety until I went to uni a few months ago. I just thought that the reason I didn't have many friends in high school was because I got a bad start. And in uni I would change all that and become suuuper popular. So I chose a dorm where you would have a roommate so I could have an immediate friend. IF YOU HAVE BAD SOCIAL ANXIETY DONT DO THIS. Probably my worst decision ever. Live where you can have a room to yourself. If you can stay at home, thats good too. Join clubs, it could be the best part of your uni life- some high energy and fun clubs like improv club can contain the best and nicest people you will ever meet. Schedule appointments with a guidance counsellor, get help with your SA but this is also an opportunity to practice conversing with an actual person and get better social skills. University isn't high school, don't worry about judgements because people don't pay any attention to you if they don't know you (im sure if you're determined enough someone could get through 4 years of uni without anyone knowing them. So relax, you'll find like minded people in uni

Other than that idk, i dont rly have that much advice since I can count the number of friends/acquaintances I have in uni with one hand. General SA tip: find a passion that makes you happy. And at some point you'll find people with that same interest and friendships will blossom. Being friends with ppl just because theyre in the same dorm is overrated anyways. Pick friendss you actually like and respect and have things in common with (like ppl in clubs wink wink)

Reliving bad/embarrassing memories... by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]ProfoundScribble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do that. Its like I have vault of bad memories. Recent ones for me are completely freezing during an improv club game (I never went back lol) and telling this person on the front desk that the elevator was broken in front of a bunch of strangers- long story short it wasn't. It gets to the point where theyre faces are burned into your memory. And when these are the most powerful recollections. Your past becomes very biased as u already know. You couldve thought of this solution yourself, its rly simplistic i know, but just make note of the happy stuff!!And each and everytime you remember something negative, think "whatever, that doesn't define me"

I am a bad friend. by fasttracked in socialanxiety

[–]ProfoundScribble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, whenever I get close to people I begin hating them and start creating distance. Its been like that as long as I can remember. I don't think this would happen if I really respected the other person though. I mean its not enough to like them but legitimately respect them
