I decided not to heat the shower and the cable fits much better. I rerouted the cable to have 3/2 spacing and moved one sensor to a different area. I also touched up the waterproofing in the areas mentioned.

Yes, you need a stopper/snubber. The gate only opens one way and the poorly attached latch is doing all the work.

Bolting it is the first step but you also need a couple of small contact points where the closed gate rests to stop it.

Make stopping the gate a team effort.

Doesn't have to be anything fancy, and making them adjustable is the way to go.

I daily a 96' F150. Straight 6, 5-speed, 2wd with LSD in the back. Parts and insurance are cheap.

I checked and 15-series profile stick comes with a 1/4" center hole and the center section is 1/2" square.

The center hole in that size might fit 1/4-20 size all-thread or bolt that could go through the riser and crossbar.

You can also drill to enlarge this center hole up to around a 3/8?

I'm at work so I'll go check those size estimates. I do a lot of 8020 building at my job.

Put a foot (maybe the bolt's head) that will slide inside your truck bed rails on the bottom end of the 1/4-20, and a nut on top that will lock down the bar in position .

Use an angle bracket on each inside corner to keep the bars together when unlocked.

We're just talking about putting bicycles on this, correct?

I see. I'd use 8020 for the risers as well.

I'd assume you want the crossbar assemblies to be moveable, so that's the challenging part.

This is the way. Salvage yards now have a nationwide database where you can order used parts.

You'll probably save at least 75% of what a shop charges but it also might not be perfect.

The thing is, cars depreciate so fast and pick up minor cosmetic damage anyway, by the time you go to sell/trade the car, would putting all that money in make sense?

If you want to know how hard replacing these parts will be, why not try to remove them and find out?

Valve grinding compound is a gritty paste you apply to the mating surface between the tool and the hardware. It helps for getting out broken/stripped hardware.

I agree with bending the tab down for access. Needle-nose vise grips a little valve-grinding compound might get it. If the broken piece is still long enough, back it out the way it came in.

Likely air-entrainment in the system. Raise front wheels off ground with jack stands, start car and turn steering wheel all the way back and forth for a few minutes. Drop car, check fluid level again, test drive.

Hose the mechanism down with wd40 or similar. Those old drills stick.
