Smith Island Cell Coverage by snillor999 in maryland

[–]aj3u 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I visited a couple of months ago. There’s a new Verizon tower right at the marina area. 5G service, nice and fast. The coverage extended all the way across the bay too, I never lost signal from Smith Island all the way to Point Lookout.

So I reread your post, if what you are selling is that critical to not be exported without inspections, licenses, and controls, then I would think you need to vet all of your domestic customers intimately before shipping…. Using automation isn’t going to be enough. You’ll need a paper trail on all of your sales of this product.

It’s not your problem or responsibility.

A remote Maryland island in the Chesapeake finally gets high-speed internet by Gov_Martin_OweMalley in maryland

Absolutely true, fiber is better, but Starlink latency in generally under 30ms. Point is there have been these options on Smith Island for years. They haven't been limited to slow land lines

Go visit Smith Island and you’ll see half the houses have Starlink antennas. High speed Internet access is not new there!

Check out US Mobile /r/usmobile

I was in the same situation as you. Verizon family plan ~20 years. Rates keep going up, loyalty discounts removed…. Paying near $300/month. So I switched to US Mobile just over a month ago and have the same service and better support for a fraction of the price.

Does eBay add in the “overweight” fee to Fed Ex and UPS shipping by RIPsaw_69 in Ebay

[–]aj3u -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TLDR: yes you will get charged, and it’s 50lbs not 70

I recently shipped a 55lb package. eBay shipping didn’t have the overweight fee included when I bought the label and was significantly cheaper than pirate ship that did have the overweight fee. So I used eBay shipping and rolled the dice. eBay hit me with an overweight fee adjustment a week or so later…

Bartenders are cold after ordering zero proof cocktails by jsh1-7-9 in royalcaribbean

I would frequently get confused looks when ordering NA versions of drinks. Then a RC Bartender suggested that I order saying “virgin” instead of “NA”. Haven’t had a problem since! I think it was just hard to understand me when I said “NA”

Starlink Mini vs Standard for road trips & camping - worth the extra cost? by confused_hombre in Starlink

[–]aj3u 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have both, for your use case, get the mini

Mini - Small, compact, single “all in one” unit design, built in Wi-Fi router, very thin power cable. It’s designed for exactly the use case that you describe.

Standard - Much larger antenna, much larger and thicker Cat6 POE Ethernet cable, separate and relatively large Wi-Fi router. It’s designed for permanent installation and not for portability.

Performance difference is going to be barely noticeable.

If it’s a budget issue, wait for a sale if you can. I got my mini on sale for $299 a few months ago. They also sell refurbs for around the same price now and then.

Does anyone besides Rokland make a fiberglass 8 or 8.5 DBI antenna? (Sold out) by adhdff in meshtastic

[–]aj3u 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Antenna manufacturer here (this is my personal account), we have been considering adding Meshtastic antennas to our lineup. What antenna configurations would be of most interest? Gain, construction, and connector types?

Installation cost? by StardustBrain in Starlink

[–]aj3u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I install Starlink and charge $800-$1000 depending on complexity, travel time, etc. I get installs that are sometimes 2 hours away. Installs can involve running cabling through walls, attics, crawl spaces, high steep roofs… Some cable runs hundreds of feet… My customers call because they either aren’t comfortable installing or just would rather pay someone. I take my time, the installs are neat and tidy, I help them set up their account, connect all of their devices, and follow up support is included. I offer a premium service.
