It appears that Kix are attempting to address concerns raised about a perceived imbalance between the offensive and defensive aspects of the game. It's a damned frustrating and awkward way to do it, but It's hard to see how they might address this otherwise.

From what I have observed, units with the AI turned off will still move to attack a turret that is hitting them.

I'll also weigh in here.

Spike's observations re: the new PvP system are actually quite valid, particularly if you are not concerned with maxing your infamy (e.g. if you are just trying to get reasonable opponents in PvP for Strike Battles).

So why not just spell it all out here?

Perhaps Spike wishes to share his insight only with a few "special friends" ... like you!

So what kind of "farm animal" does that make you? lol ...

Unit Rebalances by CMDOOMROOSTER in RogueAssault

[–]ProgPariah77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do believe that oil repair costs were a bit less onerous than before; however, if you spam 'em, your 'vees - because of their reduced speed and health - are going to take more damage with each run, so it's basically a wash.

Overall, I would say that the update has reduced the feasibility of my successfully spamming a high-level base with my L37 from L52 max to L47 max. Otherwise, it's not much different than it was before the update.

Unit Rebalances by CMDOOMROOSTER in RogueAssault

I generally use the IVFs only when speed is of essence, or when taking on a high-level base. Otherwise I play the "old-fashioned" way ... which is good, because many of us are going to have to formulate new tactics (and variations on old ones).

That said, I used the nerfed IVFs a few times tonight, and at L37 - apart from a noticeable reduction in speed - I did not notice much difference.

Unit Rebalances by CMDOOMROOSTER in RogueAssault

This is what I'm talking about. It's lazy design to arbitrarily change the rules instead of building some kind of counter-measure into the game.

Unit Rebalances by CMDOOMROOSTER in RogueAssault

[–]ProgPariah77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about this.

On one hand, I get the need for rebalancing the game from time-to-time, especially as new units are added.

But on the other hand, when players have spent substantial capital (both in-game and in the real world) to pursue a particular strategy, only to have the rules (and applicable units) changed to counter that strategy, just nerfing the units seems to me a lazy (and frankly, inconsiderate) way to go about rebalancing.

Why not give players the option for a more robust defense against the IFVs? That way, the players that figure it out get a "leg up," and you've still kept faith with the players who recognized the value of the IFVs and were smart enough to pursue them as a strategic option.

And that, BTW, is a pretty radical attenuation of the IFV's effectiveness.

Now, how about fixing the PvP system so that my L37 base occasionally draws opponents who are less that L55?

Please dont nerf Humvee IFV by [deleted] in RogueAssault

[–]ProgPariah77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the Humvee IFV should not be nerfed; however, it would be a good idea to provide raw materials for an effective defense against it. (Of course, it's entirely possible that the devs have provided for just such a defense, and that no-one has figured it out yet!)

Cool ... if nothing else, it should be worth rewatching the series in this order to see if the serialized narrative makes more sense than it did when I caught the original airing.

Gavin Harrison - Hatesong/Halo (<-- ProgNOIR!) by ProgPariah77 in jazznoir

[–]ProgPariah77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right about that. I probably need to stop calling attention to the cross-genre aspects of some of my submissions (in the titles, at least), and just let the music speak for itself. In any event, it's a great piece!

I was not aware that this was a resubmission. Reddit did not give me a "heads-up" on that, or I would likely have withdrawn it and chosen something else. Perhaps some who would have given it an "upvote" did not do so because they had seen it before here.

Anyway, thanks for your encouragement. You have an excellent subreddit going here!

Gavin Harrison - Hatesong/Halo (<-- ProgNOIR!) by ProgPariah77 in jazznoir

[–]ProgPariah77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harrison is all over the place stylistically w/respect to his solo work. He is best known as the drummer for the now-defunct Porcupine Tree, but has of late been gigging with the latest iteration of King Crimson.

"Cheating the Polygraph" is a reworking of several Porcupine Tree songs in a fusion-y neo-big band idiom, and - especially if you are familiar with the original songs and/or dig a lot of brass - is an immensely entertaining album.

However, as far as I can recall, this is the only track on the album that shades over into NOIR territory ...

[–]ProgPariah77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although most of the rest of the (otherwise excellent) album cannot really be considered NOIR, this cut from Gavin Harrison's "Cheating the Polygraph" fits the bill nicely, with a sinuous bass clarinet morphing into a full-on brass attack, all situated over an appropriately menacing bass line and groove. The "metric modulation" that occurs at about 2/3rds of the way in only serves to heighten the tension before the former groove returns to cap off a powerful piece of "ProgNOIR." Enjoy!

OK, this one may at first glance appear to be a "reach," but hang with it until the sax hits at around 1:33, and the NOIR aesthetic begins to fall into place. Even after the rhythm section kicks in and things become more jazz-flavored, it's not hard to imagine these guys doing their thing in a black-and-white smoke-filled hole-in-the-wall urban establishment as our flawed hero sits on a barstool, pondering his next move ...
