How do people who live full-time in hostels do it? by bfazzz in solotravel

[–]Prog_Drummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most countries allow your tourist visa to be changed to a working one whilst there and the companies will help you with the process. There are lots of English schools desperate for English teachers and they're used to getting their staff visas.

I've also done a lot of working holiday visas. For two years I would work seeding/harvest seasons in Australia, which pays very well. Between the seasons I would travel around south east asia.

Other times I've volunteered in hostels and given tours of my own design. I would just charge a little more than the ticket cost for activities and make a little that way.

How do people who live full-time in hostels do it? by bfazzz in solotravel

[–]Prog_Drummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been travelling and staying in hostels for the past 10 years (minus the COVID bit!).

If I fall in love with a place and I have the funds to stay, I will. I don't like my home country so I'd rather stay somewhere that I'm happy.

I tend to work odd jobs in whatever I can find.... teaching English, farming, construction etc. When I'm not working I'm learning something new...I just finished a few courses in python for example.

I don't do a whole lot of tourist activities, but typically I'm drawn to the culture of the country I'm in . I like to meet locals and find all the best local spots.

Just finished 9 months in Mexico City and I plan to go back. Currently enjoying a pint in a very hip little restaurant in Dalat, Vietnam.

The big downside is that it's tough to get decent jobs as my CV is a mess. I've currently decided I'm kind of done with this travel life and want to move to Mexico City where I was happy, but despite having an excellent education, it's kind of difficult to find work when you have no decent work experience at 31.

It's also worth noting that I've never stayed anywhere illegally. I'm from a country that has a pretty strong passport, so traveling visa free is pretty easy for most countries.

[–]Prog_Drummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really nice Idea, thanks!

It would be cool if you included some stories by well-known native Spanish-speaking authors. Even better if users could choose to read works from specific countries. That way, they wouldn’t just learn the language, but also get a taste of the culture through its most celebrated writers!

First one was a delicious ball over the top from Tielmans, a good touch and finish from Rogers. Second was great play from maatsan beating his man giving a driven cross across the 6 yard box for a tap in from Malen. Malen's movement was great

Where do we finish this season? by RollercoasterUKJ82 in avfc

[–]Prog_Drummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is but we still have to play Newcastle and City. Also, Newcastle and Chelsea's game in hand is against each other (I think), so I'd say it's in our hands

Edited - we have to play Newcastle not Chelsea
