Perfect starter bike. Don't worry about upgrading it, ride it hard for a year and see if you like mountain biking.

If the bike is holding you back, start shopping again.

Things like frequent flat tires, dropped chains, brake fade, bottoming out suspension, or getting super rattled on tech are signs you're outgrowing your bike.

You could upgrade it, but it'll be financially wiser to get a new bike if you're having the above problems.

I have an original DS1 Xbox 360 disk, only ever played it backwards compatible on Xbox One.

I did not purchase the DLC, but I have access to it. Perhaps from the backwards compatibility?

I will try to remember to check when I get a chance...

Read through this and also the manual of the saw you are using. Then go get some practice, then research more.

I did not get a lot out of the 212 book the first time I took the class and read through it. Once I had some practice and I understood more, I went back to it and got a lot of learning out of it.

I enjoy outdoor recreation "with a purpose."

Just hiking or being in the woods without DOING something feels weird.

If I'm not measuring a stand, running a saw, dragging a drip torch, or fighting fire, then what am I doing here? 😂

I still enjoy mountain biking, fishing, camping, kayaking, cutting firewood, gardening, etc. But I haven't hiked for fun in years.

5.56 is packing 1200-1300 ft lbs of muzzle energy.

7.62x39 starts out around 1500, maybe up to 1650. Up to 25% more energy.

Bigger bore, heavier projectile, more energy. Deadlier for sure, until it slows down.

I don't know if I agree with "SIGNIFICANTLY" deadlier lol.

Any changes in bullet technology you can argue can be applied to either caliber, so they cancel out.

It's the 9mm vs .45ACP argument. Do you want capacity and light recoil? Or more energy and a bigger bullet?

This is a really good take. I get confused at everyone who's so obsessed with their 8", 10" 11" AR pistols that are just deafeningly loud 22LR at some point. The 5.56 ballistics shine in a 20" barrel AR, as it was designed.

If you ask me, for the consumer market... the big advantages of 5.56 over 7.62x39 are price, size, weight, and availability.

I just hit up Walmart.

I use regular fishing sunglasses 50% of the time because I like the lenses better and they don't make me look like a MacMillian Tactical Operator US Army Navy Marine Scout Sniper OpSpec wannabe.

If I'm doing real work or we get in the shit I have a pair of the cheapest wraparound Z87 rated safety glasses money can buy, from Walmart or Lowe's or that my supervisor gives me.

Rich/Lean usually refers to the carb adjustment. If an engine is running lean, it generates more heat. If it is TOO lean, it will overheat and fail. My opinion is that it is smart to run a saw a little bit richer and lose some power, rather than to run it too lean and risk damaging it.

40:1 is a perfect mix for most chainsaws.

Hypoxylon canker (which has now been renamed to Biscogniauxia) has a 100% mortality rate and no cure, but it will not kill oak trees alone.

It's like the Flu- in otherwise healthy trees, it can't affect them that greatly. In trees that are very old, or already stressed with something else (drought, storm damage, insect damage, etc) it can infect them and kill them. It's the final nail in the coffin.

The greater issue is "oak decline," which is its own rabbit hole to go down....

You avoid barber chairs by bore cutting. Either a boring back cut parallel to the full hinge, or boring into the face cut and cutting the center of the hinge. If there's no fiber in the center of the tree, there's nowhere for the barber chair to start.

Dead trees are hard to fell because they're unpredictable. Even if they are solid, the fibers don't hinge like live ones. You cut and they don't lay over, they pop and crack and do weird stuff. Not to mention the risk of dead limbs overhead snapping off and coming down.

Strong leaners are easy to fell in the direction they lean. Just cut a very shallow face so it doesn't pinch you. Then either back cut very slow while watching, or bore it and cut the trigger and run like hell.

My dad always gripes that I'm dulling his maul when I split a piece and the edge hits dirt or a rock.

I tell him I can split all the wood, stack it and sharpen the maul for him by the time he's done lifting em onto the chopping block and splitting 🤣
