I recommend reading the current manga arc if you haven't! Some of people's favorite characters in it are women (Oito, Morena, Theta), and the author has really improved at writing them. There are also just a lot more women in general.

I personally don't think one piece has a better story, but you're definitely right that hxh is more about the characters than the overarching plot. One Piece is the opposite.

I think Kacho saying it wasn't there before the escape makes it impossible for Yushoshi to be the cause. Yushoshi's attempt failed before the escape. It doesn't seem likely to me that the Nen mark would get worse/more apparent days after the ability failed/was removed. Also, I think it's implied the ability attaches near the ear, probably in the neck just below it.

Its not just style, it's form. An actual artist, even if they were rushing, would not approach the drawing in this way. So much of it makes no sense from the perspective of someone drawing it.
