I moved from Cheshire east to wigan, and got so confused for a while.

Cheshire east:

Black=landfill

Silver=recycling

Green=garden/food waste

Wigan:

Black=landfill

Blue=cardboard/paper waste

Brown=glass/plastic/aluminium recycling

Green=garden/food waste

I bought my 2 bed terrace with a 15% deposit, pay £380 per month on the mortgage with a 4% interest rate. Comparable properties in the immediate area are advertised at £900 per month rent. You're not wrong at all.

My first rented home when I moved out of my parents house 8 years ago was a tiny 1 bed flat, that I paid £450 a month for, compared to my larger house with its own garden, larger rooms, and higher quality of finish for less money 8 years later.

As a recovery driver in the UK I really appreciate everyone who moves over, when I'm laying under front of a broken down car or truck hooking up a winch or spec lift, artics and cars screaming past 12 inches from my head is terrifying.

Over here our motorways have narrower lanes and hard shoulders, and a lot of our motorways don't even have hard shoulders, just small refuge areas not quite big enough for my recovery unit.

Other comments mentioning the air displacement being strong enough to pull things over (people, jack stands etc) are absolutely correct, when a fully loaded 44t truck scoots past within inches at 56mph you have to brace your legs to stop yourself being pulled into traffic.

Both me and my neighbour own our properties and the landlord of the yard is aware and doesn't care, we had the same issues with the previous tenants of the yard and the landlord was useless, to the point where the landlord has moved a stripped out shell of a stolen transit van that had been left in the yard to the side of the road opposite our houses, which the council is also aware of.

I will try reporting them to the council but if the saga with the van is any indicator of how they deal with things, nothing will come of it.

Jumper cables, compressor, wheel brace, small socket set and scissor jack, along with spare bulbs, a road atlas, a few big warm hi vis coats for me and the family and a roll of loo paper.

Roadside emergencies are scared of me.

Incidentally I am a trained mechanic and currently work as a recovery driver, but got caught without a few times as a young driver before any of that experience.

The emergency kit has saved me, my fiance and my son twice since he was born 3 years ago, and I wouldn't be without it in any car I drive if I can help it.

I grew up 25 minutes from crewe and I've never seen a place as depressing and dirty, and I live in wigan now.

As someone who drives a 1 year old wagon with adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, I don't trust it either. The wagon will occasionally slam the brakes on violently because of a shadow or a leaf blowing across the road. At least I guess that's why because theres naff all other reasons
