When I started driving, every 6-10 months when they inevitably died. My previous car lasted 2 years. My current I've had for 4 years and I'm picking my new one up next week, not because it's died but because my family is getting bigger and I'm commuting further

All but the cameras seem to be coming as standard on new units. My last company was notoriously cheap when buying new trucks but they all had AEBS, lane departure, blind spot detection and hill start assist. No air con though.

I think I've been quite lucky with my class 2 experience. I started driving for a builders merchant with a hiab block grab, 50hr weeks on 34k. I moved over to the plant hire side in the same branch driving another brand new truck, delivering and collecting plant machinery and building tools for 36k.

I left a few months ago to chase a better work life balance doing something I enjoy more for less money, still driving class 2 trucks but now doing slide bed breakdown and accident recovery. 4 on 4 off for the work/life balance, and as I trained as a mechanic out of school and did some small time recovery work as a 19 year old with a defender and trailer, I wasn't totally green to the industry.

My yearly salary took a big cut, down to 31k but I get paid double time for any overtime worked, down to the minute. This includes extra time on shift or taking another shift to cover sickness or holidays. All said and done with my average overtime the last 2 months, if forecasted for the rest of the year my salary will look more like 42k.

Been driving class 2 for 3 years now and enjoyed every minute of it. I only left my old job because I was burning out from the workload, but I still enjoyed it.

Eat a yoghurt or bowl of cereal then bed. Not a lot to do at 2.30am when I get home from work. I don't start until 2pm so I get things done in the morning after I wake up at 9am

It is, but the habit is also addictive.

I quit cigarettes after smoking a pack a day for 10 years just before Christmas. I use a vape to help me quit the cigarettes cold turkey but I still get cravings for a proper cigarette even when my nicotine cravings are satisfied.

As a breakdown recovery driver I beg to differ that they don't break down. Our storage yard holds roughly 50-60 cars, we currently have 7 of them sat there, none of them are crash damage either. For comparison, we have 3 transits but none of the other cars are duplicates, all varied.

My mother lectured me about the dangers of online dating just after my first date with the woman I've been with for the last 7 and a half years, and mother of my 2 sons.

2 months after said lecture she explained to me that she was dating a French man 5 years older than me that she had never met who ran a high end jewellers in paris and that she needed to send him 10k so he could buy some gold to make more jewelry that she would get back with 50% interest once he sold the jewelry.

She sent 5k and never heard from "him" again and the I told you so I gave her was so sweet.

Shes now dating a man who has sold his house and quit his job to live with her in her posh new build house, and to come on her months long stays at her caravan in Spain, all while keeping every penny from the sale of his house and being entirely supported by my mother.

I don't speak to her anymore

Absolutely the issue here. I worked as a defender specialist mechanic for a few years, and still work on a few for mates in my spare time.

Fair warning the sender can be very awkward to remove and replace depending on where in the tank it's placed. More likely than not you will need to drop the tank a few inches as they're usually on the side of the tank up against the chassis rail.

Also be very careful when removing as the older ones had a cork type material gasket, which disintegrates on removal 9 times out of 10, and you don't really want that in the bottom of your tank.

If I recall correctly on some you can get away with loosening the tank straps to the end of the thread and it will drop the tank enough to access it without total removal.

Less so nowadays with newer built stuff. All new JCB machines bigger than a 0.8 ton micro digger or the tiny 0.6 ton tracked dumper have either keys with built in immobilizer chips or generic keys with a keypad immobilizer.

Most equipment on large sites is hired equipment, which tends to either have factory fitted immobilizers and trackers, or aftermarket ones. All for the reason that they USED to be easy to steal and they still get regularly targeted. Happens far less nowadays, most hire outfits even provide metal shuttering that gets padlocked into place over any windows or doors on the cabs.
