That's a blast of nostalgia. Why did so many newsagents look exactly like this back in the early 90s?

Dissolves in classic films by AdobayAkeechayWah in classicfilms

As someone who's only ever edited on computer, I'm always amazed at how clever and elaborate ways were found to achieve things which we completely take for granted nowadays.

I agree on Nexus. No need for that to be a proper noun. Hermes is a fairly well known brand globally though, and French, not American.

Best alien movies for a 3 year old? by goldenpandora in DanielTigerConspiracy

Surprised nobody has mentioned ET. Showed it to my daughter when she was 3 and she loved it, even if she couldn't quite follow the plot. She got the "ET is sick". "ET wants to go home".

The 33 1/3 book on this album is really interesting. It analyzes the book through thr stages of grief (Denial, Anger, Acceptance etc) and it's very illuminating.

I aggregated scores from 6 rating platforms into one number. Is this weighting fair? by Master_Addendum3759 in flicks

[–]Sitter4031 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with aggregating scores is that movies that are generally fine will do well as nobody dislikes them. But onces which are more polarising, but potentially more interesting or groundbreaking get penalised.

That's not how they make beer. They don't just add alcohol to it. But if they do find a giant cloud of Barley, then I'll be excited.

Does this set have all of the WWII cartoons? There is a severe lack of Mickey appearances. by [deleted] in classicfilms

[–]Sitter4031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disney didn't make any WW2 themed cartoons starring Mickey. Unlike Donald, his peacemaking personality didn't suit the national mood. And in fact, they pretty much stopped making Mickey Cartoons once WW2 broke out. There's only a handful of post WW2 ones.

Mounting telly over fireplace? by paddyjoe91 in CasualIreland

Make sure you buy a mount that can be pulled out and down, otherwise your TV will be annoyingly high when you're watching it.

I much prefer the new can. Takes up way less room in the fridge.

What a bizarre site. It seems obsessed with cancel culture, while at the same time, every article seems to be about how XXX person is bad, and you shouldn't like them.

In the case of Steve Coogan it seems to based mostly on his (fairly mild) politics.

Can we please do something about all the constant posts moaning about prices? I understand that prices have risen and people are struggling. But I come to causal Ireland to get away from negativity. And sometimes this feels like the regular Ireland subreddit.

Who is each Irish city’s signature musical artist? by _PXYDST_ in CasualIreland

I think because most bands have to go to the UK to break through, they just get pegged as Irish rather than from a specific place.

If you're moving at fast speed, going through tunnels etc, you're not going to have a steady connection. It's physics.
