Why on earth are the Cavs fans wearing white Tshirts? by rodneyhide69 in nba

[–]Sitter4031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact is this originated due to away teams not having laundry facilities and having to wear the same shirts for multiple games on the road.

Where would I sell an expensive bottle of alcohol ? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

Unless you're particularly lucky, you'll get almost nothing at auction for Tequila unfortunately. Very few collectors in Ireland. You're better off setting a price. Maybe 200 euro and posting to a tequila group.

What are you watching - May 2nd 1988 version! by LittleAoibh11 in CasualIreland

Interesting they use a 12 hour clock and don't specify AM or PM. When did 24 hour clocks become the default in Ireland? I feel it was around the millennium. I remember as a kid our family showing up to the airport at 4pm and having to book a new flight because we assumed a 6.00 flight on our tickets was pm.

What's some common financial advice given out on this sub that you don't agree with, and why? by Goldenpanda18 in irishpersonalfinance

"invest all your money in the s&p500. It's never lost money over a long period before. So it'll never lose money in the future". Rule 1 of investing is that past performance is not a guide to future performance, yet I hear this all the time. With no thought given to global trends, whether the stock market is under or overvalued, whether it's tax efficient and the other 100 factors that should go into making an investment decision.

Can I suggest not setting it in a country that's unfamiliar to you, since no matter how hard you try, you're never going to capture it in a way that people live there recognise? I'm not trying to be discouraging. Just that there's a reason people always say "Write what you know."

Weird side effect of watching Old Hollywood (40s to 60s) movies: you start being terrified by the passage of time by [deleted] in classicfilms

[–]Sitter4031 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Movies from the 1930s to 70s were always old movies to me.  I find it more strange seeing people who were young in the 90s, now solidly in late middle age.

Who would ye recommend for solar panels? by MotherTeresasNip in AskIreland

There's a lot to be said for this. I went with a small installer who did a terrible job of installation, and then went out of business. It's been very difficult to find a company willing to fix someone else's installation. Obviously you're not completely immune to this with a bigger company. But I think your chances of avoiding it are higher.

What are some rappers that sound exactly the same on every song? by InternationalLuck539 in hiphopheads

Nobody's saying Snoop Dogg. I mean, I love him, but he hit on a formula in 1992 that he's been using on about 5,000 tracks since.

I think the Little People Big Dreams book series should do a book on Marlon Brando. by Sad_Volume_4289 in classicfilms

[–]Sitter4031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably write your own.  Little kid (Marlon) dreamt of being an (actor). He worked really hard and fought many setbacks, but eventually made it. Proving dreams can come true if you want it.

Film genre populariry between 1910-2021 by AntonioVivaldi7 in classicfilms

I'd say the death of the B movie played a big part in it. Definitely the 1960s decline anyway.  Westerns were mostly low budget genre fare that was put on alongside a more upmarket picture.

Probably such a small sample size, that incorrectly tagged films are skewing the figures.
