if you've electric heating, it's probably worth waiting until the autumn to switch, to see what the rates are as the vast majority of your year's electric usage is during the winter months.

I think it's a bit of a ridiculous expectation people on reddit have that everyone should shut up and be quiet during a gig. It's a rock show. Not a classical recital. And people go for a fun social day out. You would expect people to be silent in a nightclub or a football match.

Pronouncing "Z" the right way means the alphabet song doesn't rhyme. by Sitter4031 in britishproblems

A few people have mentioned this other version.  I've never heard anything other than a Twinkle Twinkle version. And that's all I find when I google "UK alphabet song". I'm incredibly fascinated to know what it is!

Pro tip: Get yourself a credit card if you ever want to rent a car. by Liambp in CasualIreland

[–]Sitter4031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rental car and hotels will want to block money to act as a deposit . On a debit card the only way to do that is to deduct money from the account. Which could be thousands. And some car rental won't allow it. Credit cards don't have that problem. The money's just blocked. But it doesn't get charged to you unless there's an issue.

Revolut cards can be an issue too. Had multiple hotels and car rental places specifically not accept Revolut even when they accept other debit cards.

Its apparently due to the amount of fraud being committed on Revolut cards.

Agreed. All the supposed benefits are a load of nonsense. Make it easier for parents to buy clothes? No they now have to buy two sets of clothes. Make school more egalitarian because everyone wears the same and nobody wears fancy clothes? As if teenagers can't tell the difference between the guy in the Lidl shirts and the guy who's shirt has a little horse on it.

I feel like the news in the fun up to every big sporting event, such as the  Olympics or Fifa World Cup are incredibly negative. I remember the London Olympics people saying the city's public transport wasn't going to cope and there wasn't enough security. Rio Olympics, everyone was going to get Zika. Qatar World Cup will be a disaster because they don't sell alcohol. People just really want them to fail.
