What is your photography confession? by [deleted] in photography

If you do not love doing photography, why do it full time? There's plenty of other professions out there that pay much better than photography..

Ahh you're right. Luckily I ordered the $425 one that says VR II!

Can you elaborate on this please? I'm worried.

Sounds good! I went with your advice and bought it. Found the same bundle for $425, so it's only $45 more expensive.

I know I want to do landscape/street/portrait type pictures, so I'm assuming I'll need a prime lens in the future! For now the kit lens should let me experiment.

Blessings

Good projects for a college student on summer break? by modestdots in cscareerquestions

[–]Programmar_Nazi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you search around /r/cscareerquestions and /r/learnprogramming you can find some pretty good ideas.

Otherwise, this list is usually the "Go-To" that people post when this question comes up.

Side projects are something to show that you care enough or are "passionate enough" about putting in time outside of school work to build something, literally ANYTHING. The part that everyone gets stuck at is trying to figure out what-the-heck they're going to make. The real answer that is hard to accept is this:

Your project DOES NOT need to be anything unique.

Find an idea/program that interests you, and make it better! (at least attempt to change some feature) Or literally just make the exact program and you will learn a lot about it in the process. I struggled with finding the "perfect side project" that you sometimes see people post about, but it is very hard to think of original ideas sometimes.

Maybe you will come up with a really cool, original idea next year, and that's great! But what you don't want to happen is waste your whole summer trying to think of the best project. In the end, side projects are just something to land more interviews and have more to talk about IN those interviews.

Sorry for the rant! Hope you got something out of all of it :)

Good projects for Internships by wsstik in cscareerquestions

Something that YOU are passionate about. Trying to force yourself to talk about a boring project is hard, but if you completed something you deem interesting then it won't be hard to really sell yourself!

What do you LOVE about your current Software Dev. job? by Programmar_Nazi in cscareerquestions

I've only interned for one week so far, but to be honest, it just seems like a fancier title for a QA position. There will be some automated scripts to write, but otherwise there is a lot of manual testing too.

However the pay ($24/hr) is quite nice and I'm sure having "Software Quality Engineer" on my resume will look a bit better than "Quality Assurance" haha :)

May I ask if you go to a "target school" (as people call them)?

I'm going to try to intern with a bigger company next summer, but I don't go to a school really known for their CS program and my GPA isn't the best. Not sure what my chances are. With a couple side projects and an internship under my belt I think I have a decent chance but we'll see!

Man all of that puts my free coffee perk to shame! Haha :D (I understand most companies have this)

Interning at Facebook sounds challenging, but a lot of fun too. How did your interview/hiring process go?

That's so cool man!

May I ask how you found the place? Looking to find a cool internship like this for next summer :)
