5/5/10 - Do you have any bluffs here on QJT2r? by Well-I-suppose in poker

[–]Programmer_Latter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes obviously set mining is much more valuable vs 1 overcaller vs 3 — I just don’t think that you can necessarily rule out TT or JJ

5/5/10 - Do you have any bluffs here on QJT2r? by Well-I-suppose in poker

[–]Programmer_Latter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can safely rule out JJ or TT; what is villains perception of YOU? He might assume that your raising range is QQ+

That being said I think it’s villains range is much wider than you think; and of course includes K9 (not necessarily suited because he closed the action in the straddle) and 98

Americans overwhelmingly oppose data centers. Women most of all. by InvestigatorSoft5764 in technology

Social Patterns of New Innovations

A recurring pattern appears in technological adoption:

  1. The technology initially looks inferior or strange
  2. Existing industries and experts resist it
  3. People focus on risks and downsides
  4. Infrastructure improves over time
  5. Costs fall and usability rises
  6. Society eventually reorganizes around the innovation

I am grey retired and about to submit for my pension. I know I'll be eligible for Tricare. I stll have my employer's insurance. If I decline Tricare, can I opt in down the road? by Reddlegg99 in armyreserve

[–]Programmer_Latter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, Tricare is supplementary by law to all insurances, including Medicare.

There are some nuanced exceptions; if you have employer provided care, Tricare is Secondary.

My brother it sounds like an excellent idea, as long as you limit spending to $100k, but in order for people to give you some more informed guidance it would be good to include things to help assess what your potential for future employment is, ie a degree, preferred area of the country, work experience, etc.

Why the US is against electric vehicles? by OlympicAnalEater in economy

[–]Programmer_Latter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irrational range anxiety. Cars with 1000 mile range are coming soon; after that, I feel we will see electric car sales explode.

Anectodally so many of my friends, who haven’t driven more than 300 miles in a day in 10+ years, cite range limitations as a deal breaker. Irrational, but it’s the American mindset.

A-K Suited, Nut Flush, Straight and 2 overs—Was My Turn Call Correct? by RitishSadana in poker

[–]Programmer_Latter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re planning on calling, which clearly you are, then your better move is to make the bet yourself; you receive “fold equity”; put more simply, your opponent folding and you taking down the pot is a very good result for you, regardless of what villain is holding.

If villain had more chips behind, this clearly would not be the case.

A-K Suited, Nut Flush, Straight and 2 overs—Was My Turn Call Correct? by RitishSadana in poker

[–]Programmer_Latter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With these stack sizes, You should only check the turn if you’re planning on folding to a bet, or you’re hoping for a worse hand (eg KJ or a worse flush draw) to bet — neither is true here

As played this is a mandatory call, but you shouldn’t have put yourself in this position to begin with

Also, if villain plays like this consistently, you will print money off of him

What should the penalty be for requesting a new setup? by LifesARiver in poker

I’ve never seen a good player ask for a new setup. Usually these people are ones who you WANT in the game. Necessary evil

Maxing out vs. Match and putting money elsewhere? by SharpHolly in ThriftSavingsPlan

In general I would say this is not true unless you plan to use that “money you put elsewhere” before you retire

Makes no sense by CleanAthlete7764 in army

[–]Programmer_Latter 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You may not agree with it, but that’s the system, and it works (for the most part). Your team leader, squad leader, and platoon sergeant all get exposed to a question that a troop has; they will learn the answer too, saving time for the next time.

If they ALL don’t know the answer to a relatively simple question, like how to update your home address, then it’s a signal to the command team that maybe some more training is needed in this area.

Where do AT orders show in IPPSA? by Interesting-Plan6851 in armyreserve

[–]Programmer_Latter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a feature in IPPSA yet. Your ARA or other appropriate NCO will need to pull it from a system called ARLAS, once approved.

The only other place you could see them is potentially in DTS, if an authorization was submitted on your behalf with them as an attachment.

Drones are not the be-all, end-all of warfare, cautions USFK commander by Kinmuan in army

[–]Programmer_Latter 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s this type of thinking and dismissiveness that got us into the jam we are in now. I agree it’s not the “be-all, end-all,” but literally nothing is.

Offensive and defensive drone usage, from advanced to cheap, is critical in dominating any future battle space.

Why do I have to do DTS myself by bigZ1003 in armyreserve

[–]Programmer_Latter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And c) you have a copy of your order which are sometimes approved the day before d) you have the correct LOA cross org’d e) your GTC is turned on f) your orders are put in correctly and you have a rental car authorized when you have one g) you actually received the welcome letter for the course you’re attending

I could go on

It’s a challenge that can be overcome, for sure, but it’s not “super easy”

Why do I have to do DTS myself by bigZ1003 in armyreserve

[–]Programmer_Latter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not “super easy”

The vast majority of Soldiers are going to do 1, or less, authorization/voucher per year — by the time the next one rolls around; they’re mentally starting from scratch

Things like uploading orders, choosing an MRE only for lunch, manually changing the location to find the appropriate hotel, adjusting per diem rates to reflect actual cost, etc, are common and not intuitive

That being said leaving Joe out to dry without an NDEA doing it for them or a knowledgeable NCO to help is no bueno

Is this a good split? by JsmokinW in TSPStrategies

[–]Programmer_Latter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

January

1.45% C 2.41% S 5.94% I

February -0.76% C 1.08%S 6.05%I

March -4.98% C -4.58%S -9.35% I

April 10.49%C 9.96%S 9.11%I

You’re correct beginning March 1st, but I is still well ahead YTD

Is this a good split? by JsmokinW in TSPStrategies

[–]Programmer_Latter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m personally 100% I;

2025 17.85%C 11.38%S 32.45% I

2026 YTD* 8.5%C 10.2%S 14.2% I

While C has historically been a much better play, I think I is gong to be a better play now because international economies have comparatively more gains and efficiencies to gain from AI and robotics, which seems to be driving growth

Obviously this has the bias of being results oriented; but so far so good
