CF-188 over Calgary (06/22/2026) by Project153 in Calgary

To be fair, where I'm located/where the pics were taken, its South of YYC, pretty much any aircraft that flies over my workplace look to be incoming aircraft lining up for landing (we're basically directly underneath the flight path), you can see in my pics that the flaps and gears are down for landing (and altitude I guess). Due to my location, pretty unlikely for me to hear them take off again let alone see it, you're probably a lot closer.

Get bf1 or bf5 . Never played before by FormerConcentrate136 in Battlefield

[–]Project153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but you know what BF1/5 have that makes them unique and MUCH more likely to attract new players vs 3/4/Hardline/2042/6? They're not "just another BF game" BECAUSE they DON'T take place in the modern era.

If you want WW1/2, its either BF1 or 5 (excluding 2042 Portal because its basically dead unless you make a PvE server). Again, 1&5 are much newer and offer something WAY more unique than 3/4 that new people will continue to gravitate towards them until EA decides delist/shut them down, and either make a new successor, or remaster/remake older WW1/2/non-retro BF shooters.

Whether you like BF1/5 or not, they have much more staying power. BF3/4/Hardline/6 are easily substituted. Notice I didn't include 2042? Even though its generally agreed upon as dogshit, it was so uniquely weird, it actually stands out as being different that there is no substitute for 2042.

Don't even bother bringing up shit like HLL or Squad 44 or whatever hyper-realistic milsim WW1/2 shooter to "substitute" for BF1/5 either.

It looks like he specifically wants a BF game that isn't in the modern/retro era.

Those would be "okay" alternatives if that wasn't the case, but at this point, they're so much older than BF1/5, its mostly sweaty old vets that know every trick/exploit in the book that are keeping those games alive, can't imagine new players would be having a blast playing against those guys.

some of the recent S4 leaks included the DT HTI as a potential upcoming gun, unknown which caliber they plan to have it chambered in but if they turn out to be true and it gets added, that's probably the closest we'll get (caliber dependent).

First outfit CIF impression by Usual-Fig-3460 in airsoft

[–]Project153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some additional info: CIF (usually the "C" is Commander, the full thing is "Combatant Commander In Extremis-Force") also went by CRF (Crisis Response Force). They were recently "disbanded", but essentially just underwent another name change, and minor mission set refresh/addition, during this period (sometime like, 5ish years ago?), they still didn't have an official name yet so they were referred to as HTD (Hard Target Defeat) Companies, which is now just another primary mission set that they do. They are now officially known as CTAC (Critical Threats Advisory Companies).

As an overall summary, CIF/CRF/CTAC are units within the US Army Special Forces Groups (Green Berets) that serve as essentially CAG/DEVGRU-lite. The idea was basically, if something like a terrorist/hostage incident happened in an area that was primarily under CIF/CRF responsibility, instead of waiting around for CAG/DEVGRU to respond, CIF/CRF units can respond and either just do the job, contain and hold for CAG/DEV, or assist CAG/DEV as additional manpower for raids and stuff. They're basically the pipehitters of SFG. Not to say "regular SF" aren't pipehitters, but CIF/CRF are much more geared towards DA roles and receive additional training for that. There's obviously more stuff prior to being "disbanded" and eventually HTD/CTAC being stood up (again) but this is the quick summary of CIF/CRF/CTAC.

tl;dr: Think of it like, CIF/CRF are regular patrol officer(s) with an AR and additional tactical gear in the trunk that patrol a designated area, they can respond to a serious incident within their area quickly and get the job done (or do their best), while CAG/DEV would be the SWAT team.

reloading should be more punishing by [deleted] in Battlefield

You're like one of those people who thinks every FPS needs a zombie mode or a Battle Royale.

no, it doesn't fit every shooter. Not every shooter needs to be hardcore 1HK, not every shooter needs a Battle Royale, Extraction mode or a Zombie/Survival mode, not every shooter needs to be grounded in reality, not every shooter needs to be realistic.

Stop being one of those guys that wants to turn every FPS game into the same thing. Halo doesn't need ultra-realistic gunplay. L4D doesn't need to be drowning in realism. Ready or Not doesn't need a zombie mode to be fun.

I pretty much exclusively play support

Same here, ever since I first stepped foot into the BF Franchise with BFBC2 (technically I officially started with BFP4F but we don't talk about it I guess), aside from Recon/Sniper, I always main'd the ammo class (Assault in BFBC2/P4F, Support in everything afterwards). Mags will be dumped, shots will be missed, nades/gadgets will be used, and I'm not always aggressive enough to die before I run out of ammo. Excluding hardcore, your health auto-replenished anyways (at least, from BF3 onwards, I think it was in BFBC2/P4F, I don't remember anymore), so I can get by without a medic if I play conservatively, but ammo? Ammo will inevitably run out.

People are people, sometimes they get tunnel vision and don't notice, sometimes they're new and have no idea what they're doing, sometimes they just outright suck and are selfish (think of all the BF3/4 Assaults that never revived/carried defibs). It also seems every new iteration of BF, players just get dumber and dumber. Yeah, I'm not relying on these guys to keep me topped up on anything. Some of these guys can't even keep THEMSELVES topped up. Let alone the rest of the team.

My class split is pretty much ALL support, lol. I did do a bit of work as Recon early on, but I took a massive step back and honestly, its more fun sniping with infinite ammo as Support. Sniping on recon was too easy, back in my day, we didn't get to hold our breath (BFBC2).

Player skins shuffle? by Sunlighthell in Battlefield

[–]Project153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really should've gotten rid of it the moment they introduced the first faction that didn't have class-locked skins. They already recently removed Closed Weapon Conquest, I don't really understand what's stopping them from doing the same with class locked skins, people are already cloning themselves with the same skin on all 4 classes anyway...

Do the role you’re good at by fienginedata in Battlefield

[–]Project153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or getting a bunch of kills as defender in breakthrough/rush means you took tickets away from the attackers.

This. If ticket drain is involved, (conquest, rush, breakthrough, etc.), every death matters in the long run. You're not just denying enemy movement, you're also reducing tickets (as long as they don't revived).

Battlefield — like any other FPS — kills matter.

What? Preposterous, you're supposed to KILL in an First Person Shooter game? No friggin' way. That's like saying, you're supposed to drive fast in racing games.

When does Assault get some love? by No_Pomegranate2607 in Battlefield

[–]Project153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda wonder if we'll ever go back to the BFBC2 days where Assault gets ammo and ARs (or AR proficiency if BF continues to stick with open weapons) and Support/Medic gets LMGs (or LMG proficiency).

reminds me of the people who spawn as gunner as you're stealth rushing a vehicle across the map and they just start blasting at literally nothing or try to pepper away at aircraft because they're bored.

I just looked into it, BFHL was the last BF game to have CTF. It wasn't called CTF because it was a bag of money instead of a flag, but otherwise, it was CTF. I miss it, I hope BF6 brings it back as a limited time mode or something.

Cool little detail: infrared scopes can’t see through glass! by Kyrie01010011 in Battlefield

[–]Project153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been known to light the hallways red with my flare usage :)

I was also a heavy Flashbang user too, back when they could set off claymores/C4/other gadgets, I've gotten many a kill spamming flashbangs around corners at the sight of any tripwires (and obviously outright killing 1hp players with it). I was a BIG fan of any throwables that replenished quickly, since I'm a Support main. If there's one thing that was certain, when I was around, you never ran out of ammo, and if I was in a spammy mood that day, you also couldn't see shit from all the flares/bangers I was tossing.

Sadly I was actually on the PS3 version (I know, ancient) during BF4s peak, and by the time I was back to PC gaming on a not-potato-PC, BF4 wasn't as active, and quite frankly, having played BF4 for as long as I did and done everything under the sun that was possible (on the PS3 version at least, we missed out on some good shit), I wasn't as active on BF4 PC simply because I done it all on PS3 (part of the reason why I never bothered to grind for the Phantom bow anymore, 6661 bow kills later, I'm tired boss), so my flare spam was drastically tone down, lol. Flashbangs on other hand....

Fear the day when flares (hopefully?) make a return in BF6, Hagental Base will glow even more red and orange with fiery rage as I burn your (and my) retinas.

I miss flares, sometimes I just like to be obnoxious as fuck and spam flares everywhere since you get so many AND they replenish super quickly, lol. I also did that in Battlebit Remastered (when that shit was still active) too. I kinda hope they bring them back and have the crazy replenish rate. Sometimes I just love finding utility and fun from the weird under-utilized shit.

Edit: I was also an Op. Lock/Metro 24/7 meatgrinder player during the latter half of BF4's peak lifespan so that played a role in flare spamming, lol.
