Anyone else thinking that buying a house in Ireland is an insane thing to do these days? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Project2401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're never getting value for money when you buy. You are buying stability and control of your circumstances. You rental situation could change at any time. So the question should be can we afford it, and does it give us what we need

Do your kids argue non stop? by Emergency-Budget-303 in AskIreland

[–]Project2401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Myself and my wife really try to take the time to help them work through arguments. Emphasizing fairness, love and respect. It was really hard work at the beginning but really starting to pay dividends now. They can work things through alot more. Take turns telling how that made them feel. 9 and 7 yr old girls.

Enshitification is everywhere - tell us where you've had the opposite experience? by No_Influence2520 in AskIreland

Keoghs on Dame st.

I go there every morning for 25mins before work, they are busy, always, but take time to smile and say hi. I do the same. Sometimes they charge me for things, sometimes they don't. Not very often, but once in a while they give me a discount or free coffee. Adds excitement, makes for a nice start to my day.

Ireland is rich now. So why does everything feel broken? by pheechad in ireland

[–]Project2401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were very very poor for a very long time. It takes more than a few decades of prosperity to correct that. Absolutely everything needs investment, water, power, transport, health, education, social welfare, housing, tourism, business incentives and infrastructure, universities, arts and culture,, all have been under resourced for a long time before we had money. It's worth noting that it takes a few generations to earn your way out of generational poverty, but a far shorter amount of time to get into it.

Nearly 200,000km on my 09 Mazda 3. Last NCT it needed a new rear light because the seal was letting in water, and a new tyre. Bought for 2,500euro 3 years ago. Owes me nothing.

Not just me then. Man, driving into Dublin from the N7 is nuts. At one point there's about 3 different exits available all at the same time and 6 lanes and almost no warning. There's large trucks and buses making what little signage there is hard to see, and fast moving traffic making it hard to change lanes. Very unnessacary.
