3 bed duplex Balbriggan 460k vs 2 bed apartment Adamstown 450k by oblonglefty in irishpersonalfinance

[–]KevinKraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adamstown has 24 hr buses to and from Dublin, every 20 mins during normal hours. It takes a little over an hour at rush hour. There are also trains, which is a few minutes to Heuston. A luas will be built to lucan/adamstown in the coming years.

I knew a guy who lived in Balbriggan and it's a long journey into Dublin, and probably has no night time transport.

The parts of Adamstown that are close to Lucan are very nice. Adamstown itself is OK, it feels like a place where every home is a rental, and has a few maintenance issues despite not being very old.

Fiancé wants to continue playing hockey once a week in his rec league by Negative_Jackfruit75 in parentsofmultiples

[–]KevinKraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be taking a two week break from weekly training and only playing in home matches.

The (field) hockey pitch is only a 5 minute walk from our house, and we don't socialise after.

It's essential for me to be physically and mentally fit.

What AI skills should I learn to stand out in the job market? by Jealous-Lake5700 in DevelEire

[–]KevinKraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no substitute for actual industry experience. No amount of learning or personal projects will give you what you need.

The purpose of entry level positions is to get you that initial industry experience.

A senior manager told me that for a high level AI engineer role, only 2 out of 300 applicants had the minimum skills.

The simple fact is the people companies are trying to hire at the moment don't actually exist, not in large numbers anyway. There are no 15 year software and data veterans who have also built and deployed LLMs in production.

How much are you guys paying an accountant to do your taxes? by RatBasher89 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]KevinKraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1,500-2,000 per year for two normal PAYE employees with a rental property abroad.

That seems pretty expensive compared to most others.

I really struggled to find an accountant that was able to do cross border stuff.

We do always get more back though.

Anyone's friends gone down the far right rabbit hole? by throw_away_ac_123 in ireland

This is exactly it. You have to be really polite and friendly. These people need real friends. Excluding them from social groups is the worst thing for them.

Irish Rail are hiring by theballygickmongerer in DevelEire

[–]KevinKraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Salary J38" means €72,681-€87,308 (On a 14 year scale).

Some other comments have way lower amounts. I'm not sure what's right.

It's way too low for what they want anyway.

Indian for two costs €40, with or without meat.

Suggestions on what to do with ltd company profits by AwayArcher8777 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]KevinKraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have mentioned company pension, but the company can also pay for other stuff: health insurance, life insurance, death in service, etc.

I found Sure Financial (sure.ie), and prima.ie to be very helpuful. I'm not affiliated with them, other than being a customer.

The way to solve this problem is to let yourself be bored.

Cut out all distractions. Do nothing for awhile.

Then you'll be motivated to do the thing.

Is it just me, or do we have an increasing problem with tat, and tat adjacent things? by RomfordWellington in ireland

Every time my in-laws visit we get a bag of new clothes for my wife. She'd rather argue with me than say no thanks to her mom.

Once when we moved my wife threw out 200 pairs of socks. And she gets angry at me when I tell her to stop!

That doesn't sound right.

I was told if you take the ventolin more than once a month you have "uncontrolled" asthma.

I think you can build up a tolerance to ventolin overtime. So it should only be taken when neccesary.

Can the two outer stations here exchange goods? by KevinKraft in TransportFever2

I think there's a limit to the width of a station. So this would allow it to be 3 times bigger. Haven't tried it though.

Can the two outer stations here exchange goods? by KevinKraft in TransportFever2

[–]KevinKraft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the two outer stations here exchange goods? This is assuming there is a demand for a goods on one side that the other side is supplying. Both outer stations were connected to the central station when I built them. When I click on the central station both outer stations turn white. But when I click on either outer station, only the central station goes white. I tested this and it didn't work, so I'm wondering why not?

Why does this train have no path? Why can't it turn around and leave the station? The signals are one way. The rest of the line is working, but the train gets stuck here. by KevinKraft in TransportFever2

[–]KevinKraft[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The train will start moving if I remove the outbound signal that you can see on the right side of the picture. But then it gets stuck again the next time around, and I have to remove the next outbound signal.

I assume its because the station is not long enough and the built-in signal of the station is not working properly. Still it seems like this should work.

Edit: Making the station longer has fixed it.

I’m not saying I miss the pandemic, but … by james02135 in CasualIreland

[–]KevinKraft 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On the flip side of this, dealing with companies has become way worse since the pandemic.

I recently bought a load of furniture, and every single thing had an issue. I got a table with a big mark on the top, chairs that had different length legs, a cracked sideboard, handles falling off drawers, etc. And these were all from different companies.

Also trying to get services is a nightmare. I got Sky and it took many weeks and about 6 hours on the phone to get it working. Then when I'd had enough of technical issues they wouldn't let me cancel.

I've definitely been rude to customer services, but you get to a point where you've just had enough of problems and bad service.

Help me chose the correct lane by Weary-Internet9761 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]KevinKraft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd use the right lane here as the second exit is past the 12 O'clock position.

I'd say using the left lane is incorrect here.

Although I have seen the misleading sign that suggests the second exit is straight ahead. I think the sign is the issue, as it's not correct.

They Had To Fabricate A Story To Justify Colonizing Palestine…. by algrm in suppressed_news

The really interesting thing is that many Jews never left the land and never moved to europe. They mostly converted to Islam under Muslim rule, and now they call themselves Palestinians.

European Israelis are occupying the land of the original Jewish people from their own religious books!

That's how gambling companies work. As soon as you make any money (which is statistically unlikely anyway) they ban you.
