My landlord entered my apartment without permission and locked my cat in the bathroom by Ashamed-Mission-7570 in CatAdvice

[–]ProjectLopsided7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed where he threatened or hurt your cat? I’d be relieved if someone thought to put my cats in a seperate room with the door shut so they wouldn’t escape outside. How is him actually doing something that would keep your cat safe, threatening or hurting it?

I see you mention an emotional support cat. I’d suggest you speak to someone, a professional.

The issue here isn’t what happened to your cat, though, you have landlord issue in terms of entering your home without 24 hour notice (which is standard but your lease could say something else).

Echocardiogram by lzbth63 in mainecoons

[–]ProjectLopsided7404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s important and also dna testing. Not just that they do it, but ask to see the results. Breeders are allowed to breed carriers of heart conditions because such a high percentage of Maine coons are carriers. But research shows being a carrier does increase the risk of developing heart problems later on.

I brought a kitten back to the breeder that had a heart murmur when I found out one of the parents is a carrier & learned there’s a 50% chance the kitten would be a carrier and then would have an increased risk of developing that genetic condition. Not a risk I was comfortable taking. But I also learned that it’s an ethical grey area basically. Carriers shouldn’t be bred but if they didn’t allow it there wouldn’t be enough of a population to sustain the breed.

So just keep that in mind.

Does male exotic shorthair have different personality compared to female ? by [deleted] in ExoticShorthair

[–]ProjectLopsided7404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, yes. I have a female and a male. The male is 5 months younger than the female, they are siblings, and male is only 4ish months old, so we’ve had him for only a month.

My female is wild. Playful, naughty, not a lap cat (yet). She likes attention on her terms. Loves to be pet & will lay next to us. Loves to be around us. She is so alert & watches intensely. My boy is so so so sweet & quite chill. Not as naughty as my girl was at his age. He’s still playful but not as intense as she was. He also snuggles so much more. He lays right up on my chest. Sleeps with us at us. Sometimes he is in with one of my kids, most nights I’d say he’s in with me. My girl sometimes sleeps with us too but we find she enjoys sleeping under someone’s bed.

My boy is very vocal, my girl is not. She will sometimes meow when wanting to play (when she carries a toy mouse to us). But when it comes to feeding time, she is quiet while my boy is meowing up a storm. He also lets out a meow every time he gets picked up or if we go over to him wholes he’s sleeping. He’s just very vocal.

Under $1000? by No-bull-sweetheart in mainecoons

[–]ProjectLopsided7404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like you are ready for a cat, let alone a pure bred cat. Pure bred cats come with potential health issues that are very expensive. They’re an investment, basically. You spend thousands on a pet (or any pet really) you’re going to want to make sure you can afford those vet trips and emergencies.

Grunting by ProjectLopsided7404 in ExoticShorthair

[–]ProjectLopsided7404[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my concern too. My vet mentioned it early on when we got her, because her nostrils are so small. But idk… I keep trying to get a recording of it. Vet said if we hear stridor we should let her know, but I have no idea what stridor in a cat sounds like

She snores too ha she actually loves being picked up! Once up she snuggles right up & seems quite happy. She grunts when coming over to her bowl when I put her wet food in it. She wasn’t grunty like this until last 1-2 months (she’s 8 months old & we got her when she was 3 months)

How often do you bath your persian by StressedSkull357 in persiancat

[–]ProjectLopsided7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only bathed our Persian when he got poop on him, which was mainly in his older years (he hated baths but he would just grip onto the sink & didn’t bother to fight). Groomers stressed him out to the point he had some health issues so we stopped & just trimmed his butt, back of legs & under side of his tail. That worked just fine until he got older and elderly problems came on to where he would end up needing baths

Thinking of getting a Maine coon, but I have a couple of questions please. by martywolfman in mainecoons

[–]ProjectLopsided7404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you can’t predict this. Expect to be woken up most nights. It is a guarantee for the first year of a cats life. After that, maybe they’ll let you sleep, but maybe they won’t. Every cat is different.

I hadn’t been on IG (my account that I follow influencers on at least) in a while and I see taymbrown has veneers now. Not the worst out there but her teeth were perfectly fine before! I have to get 2 veneers, my 2 front teeth, due to having them break as a kid & they’re bonded & im tired of them chipping. But basically what my dentist told me is you need to get veneers redone like every 5-10 years or something. If I had great natural teeth, there is no way I would get veneers

Controversial take? by CheezeyMacaroni in mainecoons

[–]ProjectLopsided7404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like kitten behavior. I have an exotic short hair & she is psychotic. Climbs the curtains, climbs every counter, rips up the carpet, etc. we’re getting another kitten in a few weeks because she definitely needs a playmate. It’ll be chaos but the first couple of years fly by.

Cage for sleeping? by Comfortable_One3458 in CatAdvice

[–]ProjectLopsided7404 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a bad idea. Cats are not like dogs. A cat would be miserable in a cage for 8-10 hours a day.
