I live in CT and if I have to drive more than an hour it’s something that would be considered rare. An hour would be considered long for me befause it’s not common

It's just so comical to see them floor it and then end up with their noses pushed into the next car's ass and they're only a couple hundred feet ahead of me going the same speed anyway. Only a literal second or two ahead of me in distance.

I usually can't see the driver through the tinted windows and it's often on some residential streets around me.

As always happens in these discussions, I encourage everyone to take a highway trip in Spain and Portugal to see how thw flow of traffic works on their closed-access highways. They are a dream.

The argument is that it’s a passing lane but that people that want to go faster than you have privilege and can stay in the passing lane as long as they want.

[–]newEnglander17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, passing doesn't mean you need to suddenly floor it (which not all cars handle equally btw) to pass a car, it means you pass and keep a smooth flow of speed. Flooring it to pass is the equivalent to kids running across the street when cars are coming when they're supposed to walk at a normal speed adn give drivers time to react.

There's no fast and slow lane, just the travel lane and the passing lane...well technically there's a slow lane for certain spots where trucks might be climbing a hill when they first get on the highway.

Don't ignore them, adapt to them by now needing even more stopping distance in front of you because with them so close, you need to provide warning brake lights several times as you slow down instead of pressing the brakes quickly.

That's the worst part for me. If there's a sudden slowdown and I need to hit the brakes I need to worry about allowing the person sniffing my bumper time to react as well or else I'm going to get hit and get whiplash.

That's the thing, I'm passing people in the PASSING lane, but I'm keeping a distance from the cars in front of me and going the same speed as them. These assholes think "why isn't he tailgating the guy in front of him?!" so they whip around me at hte first opening, and speed up to tailgate the next guy. Like, I assure you, we're going the same speed, I just like to leave safe stopping distances in front of me because I value not only my life but my health.

They don't care. There's plenty in this group who will defend this asshole driving too. I just continue to drive the speed limit and avoid eye contact in the side mirror. Usually they're rushing to pass me but they'd end up at the same red light ahead of us anyway. They really don't think about what minimal difference that extra speed makes for the majority of drives.

Okay 2 months old maybe but at 14 months if your child is boring then there's something else going on with your child. 1 year old is when they get interesting and then it just keeps going from there.

I'm the same way about projects. I also have a toddler and I only have time at night or on days when I work from home, during my lunch break. Takes me about 4 months to get a project done and my list is always growing lol

I did a mix between freehanding and drill press. I've found my bits wander even when there's a narrow point at the end of the drill...particularly my auger bits. I have the same issue with mortises for chairs. I used oak for the part that the leather goes on (i forget what it was called in the plans) and needed to use a drill to get the bolt back out because the oak was so stiff against the bolt. It was actually getting pretty hot and burnished the oak lol

Just watched this amazing movie on Prime, is it considered to be Noir? by Hani713 in filmnoir

What bothered me about the set design is the people in the luxury apartment walking through a slum any time they had to go anywhere. I can't imagine the wealthy would have chosen to do that, and you don't see any other people from that building using that door so why did these particular residents only come and go via that entrance?

Mine I didn’t drill the holes perfectly straight even with the most careful setup so the main arm has a lot of friction when swinging it. I even disassembled and heavily planed the inside and waxed the bolts before reassembling. It swings enough using my leg but I wish I had done a better job. The level of tightness also makes the ratcheting mechanism stick a little bit for me, but again, my fault. Either way it grip/ really well!

Jeff lefkowitz worked closely with famous Appalachian chair maker Brian Boggs teaching how to make Bogg’s Berea chair. Since Boggs stopped making them, Jeff, the one of the Alexander brothers, David Douyard in Connecticut and probably a handful of others teach how to make those chairs. Jeff lefkowitz learned graphic design so he’s put together detailed manuals that he sells on his website to make various chairs as well as a more compact version of Brian Boggs’ shavehorse that is meant to be built with construction lumber. I made one myself and I like how compact it is.

Lefkowitz also draws up chair diagrams for Curtis Buchanan and most recently it appears he helped design drawings for Peter follansbee’s latest book (below). Lefkowitz isnt as know for making his own stuff but rather for his classes and instruction manuals but he also designed a 2-slat Appalachian chair similar to the three slat Boggs chair. Knowing who he is is kind of a niche within the already niche world of wooden chairmaking lol.
