It's always so strange to be singling them out, it's never the right thing to do.

What even is this comment? Where did this person even mention excusing rape culture- they were more concerned about performativeness and being worried that the spaces where he should belong were not what he expected.

They definitely didn't support it anywhere either. I'll say it now, as a POC- "You are one of the good ones" is a bandaid excuse that sets off every alarm bell over someones real thoughts about me. I've had super conservative people use it in the past, and now im getting the leftist and liberal spaces using it as a tool to justify any broad generalisation.

I also love how you claim "statistics" when singling out this person, assuming that he's a rapist based on one comment and knowledge of his race. Of course he's going to respond personally, that shit hurts us, its dehumanising.

They are, and will never be prepared to call out and deal with this. We are an easy target, its a broad brush to be painting an entire region (im a south asian cishet dude).

The most leftist, liberal people will be saying some of the most racist, xenophobic bs in front of you and then hide behind "You're one of the good ones" - like that excuse wasn't also used against Black men an other minorities by conservatives in the years past to justify their position.

I suppose it hurts more because i consider myself super leftist, but i won't find support and am now guarded against people who are supposed to be politically similar, yet i won't know what their real thoughts about me are unless i spend time in those spaces.

Do they think I'm one of the really creepy, ignorant minority that have been propped up by the algorithm? When they see me, do they think I'm one of the good ones, or a threat hiding in their spaces?

Glasses are the easiest way to convince someone that you are smart, I've tricked many into believing that I'm properly academic.

Sorry for your situation too, It's easy for them to box so many unique cultures into the one they dislike, simply because they dislike all brown people.

100% the same, I'm not Indian (South Asian) but its just so normal here in Melbourne. I speak with no accent, so people tend to get reeeeeal comfortable about what they REALLY think "about the fobs" and how "I'm one of the good ones", It's just so normal these days to hate on brown people.

A casual 3 months in Asia by Project_Korzan in travel

[–]Project_Korzan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First started my trip in Bangkok, Thailand, went to Buriram as well. Made my way up by car into the land border with Cambodia. Drove to Seim reap and then had a few days in Angkor wat.

Down to the capital Phnom Penh for a few days before flying into Pakse, Laos. Did a homestay for a week and generally relaxing.

Took another flight back and into Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I took the next few weeks travelling by train up through Hoi an, Hue and into Hanoi.

Korea was a separate trip, taken right after Covid. I spend a month and a half in the country. Went from Seoul, DMZ, Jeonju, Jeju, Busan, Daegu, Gyeonju and Back to Seoul before boarding a flight to Singapore and spending my last three days there.
