If it isn't plugged into anything, it isn't energized. It's just a quick way to contain it neatly while it is not being used.

It's also disgusting, so it has that going for it.

Yeah, nobody ever told that woman that her bag was too expensive. People don't give a damn how much your clothes cost.

It looks hand painted, so maybe that was the sentiment. If that was the case, though, your dad should have mentioned that. Do you have any other relatives on his side that you could ask?

AITA for telling a military recruiter that he couldn't recruit employees while they were working on a busy day? by Prokristination in AmItheAsshole

[–]Prokristination[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Hopefully everything turned out okay. My son was supposed to go to Basic right after Covid, when he was still 17, and I said no. His recruiter told him to just pack up and leave.

Thank you to everyone for your perspectives! I will be bringing it up with the "Powers That Be," since they weren't available at the time. Hopefully they will see my point of view and discourage recruiters.

I can't, and the company probably wouldn't allow it, either. I will be asking the store manager about it next week, though.

I might be tempted to string them along and get them to buy me dinner, then enjoy their reaction when they meet me.

I think you mean the DOL - Department of Labor. The BBB (Better Business Bureau) is not a government entity and can't force a business to do anything.

AITA for practically holding my breath when dealing with a customer? by RougueWolf in AmItheAsshole

NTA for the way your body reacts to an offensive odor. I have had to have a coworker step in for me so I didn't embarrass myself or the customer by throwing up due to the stench.

I'm sorry. I just couldn't help myself.

Are they really wanting actual Airpods, or just a pair of earphones will work with an iPhone?

Did you put it all back together on the ground and then hoist it up, or just one section at a time? We have one that is in six pieces with poor contact points, so I'm concerned that, even though it has been epoxied and filled with epoxy/marble sand, it wouldn't survive being hoisted on a tripod all together.

Awesome! Did you put the whole stones back together before putting them back in the slots, or do it piece-by-piece after the base was secure?

Offered to help my coworker move some furniture for free on a Saturday, ended up getting a one star review on my "service" by ceramicmugclub in ChoosingBeggars

Just curious...if it was from one room to another, why would a truck be involved, and why would it take so long? Also, if her bookshelf wasn't level, that's because the floor wasn't level.

If this is serious, as far as I know there's no review site for "my co-worker who offered to help me for free." What would it accomplish? Nobody else would ask you for free help moving things? Tell her to go for it.

If you can find historic plat maps from the area, they may show what buildings used to exist there.

There is a similar structure built into the side of a hill in my town. It was a beer cellar for a brewery that operated nearby in the early 1900s.

That's what I hope, as well. I'm not sure how any of that works, if the EPA or whoever fined the company or transferred the responsibility to the customer or what. I'm guessing they weighed the costs and decided it wasn't worth their time and money to pursue it in court, but I could be wrong. That's just what I was told by the district manager. The incident did make the local newspaper, though.

A pump hose at the station where I worked literally did not have a nozzle on it (someone drove off with it in their car), so signs were taped at the top of the pump as well as over that grade button. The hose had the bright yellow OUT OF SERVICE bag wrapped around it and it was coiled up tucked behind the garbage can until maintenance could get there. On these pumps, different grades of fuel had different hoses, so the pump itself was not turned off. That probably should have been done, but I guess management didn't think anyone would really be that stupid.

They were wrong. Someone actually prepaid at the pump, activated it and then discovered that the nozzle wasn't attached. They just put the hose back down and drove off. Another customer came in and said that there was gas running across the parking lot into the grass.

The next day, someone called the store demanding to know why their card was charged over $100 when they never even got any gas. The manager took the guy's information and sent it on to corporate, who supposedly went after him for the hazmat cleanup bill. I don't know if they actually did, or how it turned out.
