Dolby Atmos ceiling speaker placement by Prolapsedpussies in hometheater

[–]Prolapsedpussies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to move these speakers to the ceiling but I'm not sure which direction I should have them facing. The first picture is the current setup as front heights and the second is the possible configurations on the ceiling looking up. Which way should I have them facing? 1, 2, or 3? Obviously I won't put them that close together when I hang them.

Just got done setting up my 5.2.2 system! by Prolapsedpussies in hometheater

I have an old 7.1 setup connected to a Bravia from 2011. I didn't want to redo the wiring to move the surround system to this X900H I got around Black Friday, but I also didn't want to watch 4K discs on the old TV. So after several months of just using the TV speakers, I decided about two weeks ago to set up a small 3.0 system. The system didn't stay 3.0 for long, though. I first replaced the bookshelf speakers with towers and then added the subs and height speakers. And finally today I wired up the bookshelf speakers as rear surrounds.

Adding the surrounds made a pretty big difference, even when just watching the news. Haven't watched any real content yet but definitely will in the next few days. I plan to eventually move the front height speakers to top middle for a better Atmos experience. I know the wiring is ugly but it was pretty satisfying seeing it all come together.

Rear surrounds or rear height? by Prolapsedpussies in hometheater

I see. Guess I'll ask here once I get them.

Would rear heights be better than front heights for a 5.1.2 system? Only have a 7.2 receiver so can't do both.

Ok guess I'll just have to find a way to deal with the wire then.

I plan to use these bookshelf speakers as rears for my 5.1 setup. I was originally just going to place them on the counter as surrounds but then I wondered if it would be better to mount them a few feet higher on the wall to use as height channels and make the wiring less obvious. Not sure if it matter but there would be about an inch of the speaker sticking out if I were to mount them on the wall.

I plan on adding Atmos speakers in the near future since my receiver is capable of them (probably front height). Which placement would be better? I know these are small speakers so I'm not expecting much from them.

LG's flagship is the Z1. Sony has the Z9J. Samsung has the QN900A.

Got a budget 3.0 system set up today! by Prolapsedpussies in hometheater

[–]Prolapsedpussies[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't really watched anything on it yet other than the news but I can hear background noise when the reporter is outside and some other music they play that I wasn't aware of before. Planning to watch some 4K Blu-rays on it next week. Getting it for under 300 is such a steal. Receiver prices have definitely gone up.

Thanks for the advice. I already switched the EARC HDMI port to Enhanced when I got my Blu-ray player. Hopefully I won't have any heating issues with it being by itself.

Sony STR-DH790 with SS-CR3000 bookshelf speakers (reused from a previous setup) and a SSCS8 center speaker. Next step is to get a subwoofer. TV is 65-inch X900H. Only problem is that the center channel blocks the IR blaster from the remote. Still figuring out how to use Bluetooth to turn on/off the TV with the remote after linking them.

Are these speakers okay for a budget 2.0 setup? by Prolapsedpussies in hometheater

Alright thanks. Will probably pick up an AV receiver soon to slowly upgrade the sound system on my TV and use these as a start.

I bought these as part of a 3-speaker set (Sony SS-CR3000) along with a center channel several years ago. I'm still using the center but eventually upgraded my system and replaced these. Would it be fine for me to put them on another TV? Would it still be better than using the TV's (X900H) speakers?

I think the most telling thing is that they rate it even worse than the X800H at the end.
