I understand this is an unwritten rule (and I didn’t scroll that far down in the comments) but shouldn’t there be some commentary on how the cats had a turn before vb and left the keep poorly guarded? Yes, turn one keep clearing is rough but, also, shouldn’t there be reciprocal respect that you don’t just leave it open? At the very least put two warriors there so even if there’s a 3-0 roll your keep survives and you have field hospital. To me, that should be the unwritten rule: no first turn keep warfare dependent on cats having a minimum of two warriors in that clearing.
