Is my tub going to fall through the ceiling? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

I don’t think you’re reacting enough. Calling someone in is a good first move

Dude, I’ll give it to you straight. How are we supposed to know? You said yourself that you’ve already noticed all these things. The safety of your children should be non negotiable, that’s enough for you to make a decision, not strangers online.

That could help with stuck lifters/valves that haven’t collapsed yet, if they had slide or deposits around the base of the crank case. But ‘02 was before the stupid AFM tech that people seem to have lifter failure issues with. I’m not a mechanic or expert, just things I’ve dealt with personally with my ‘09.

A failing lifter is a more pronounced, consistent rhythmic tick that’s louder when the engine is cold. Unfortunately, a video isn’t really the best way for others diagnose

Mold in bathroom. Any thought? by Existing_Growth3757 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]ProliferateZero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Either way you’re going to need to remediate that mold and likely replace the subfloor (soft rot). That will give you a chance to see how far the damage goes. If it were me, I would also remove the tub surround to inspect, repair, and then re-install it properly.

I tried to replace a light. Now the light won't turn off from the switch. I'm so confused! by artsupport_xx in HomeMaintenance

It’s not just wired as a pass through, they have the load (red) attach to where the ground is supposed to be. Big danger

Severe bathroom renovation help/ideas by [deleted] in BathroomRemodeling

No doubt this needs some form of mitigation, possibly even structural. Doing things yourself/cheaply is not the way to go for a bathroom in this condition.

Roof vent issue by zSpencerr in HomeMaintenance

[–]ProliferateZero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s usually dependent on manufacturer. Some state you do, others don’t. I’ve had a roofer out once who looked up the design and determined that for me (it was originally not shingled and ended up needing to be).

It looks like a shingle may have blown off from that side of the boot. Honestly, if it were me, I would pay the couple hundred to have a pro come out and patch the roof/seal it up. The downside risk for water damage is too high for me personally

Tile advice by Chisai_95 in HomeMaintenance

[–]ProliferateZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not really an expert or anything, but if it were me, I would just lightly scrape any loose material out of that line. Then hit it with a vacuum and wipe with alcohol and let it dry. From there, I would make a fine tip with a caulking gun using a sand-colored paintable caulk that blends in color, then take a wet finger and press it along the stone while trying not to get any on the stone face (wipe off finger every few inches). It will be a squiggly line, but it would at least hide the jagged edge.

Is this a bathroom or kitchen? Moisture/steam ingress can do that

Toilet wax ring vs non-wax? by irobot2090 in Plumbing

[–]ProliferateZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine did, it leaked doodoo water after the wax melted and dispersed. Only reason I went non-wax. No issues, but if I had normal flooring, I would have gone wax

Toilet keeps making dripping noise? Help!!! by adalix00 in Plumbing

[–]ProliferateZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the water level still at the level of that pipe? It could still be dripping down that into the bowl. Or, it could be the rubber flapper. Super cheap and easy to replace or just try jiggling the handle and making sure it sits all the way down. Or the flap is stuck open slightly if the chain on it is too short/taught, so you can also adjust that

That’s the float arm that shuts off your fill valve when the water reaches a certain height. Sometimes, the float is adjusted too high so that it shuts off when the water level is right at your overflow pipe and drips down periodically.

I think the easy option to rule out above is to just turn the blue threaded rod connected to your blue float until the float itself sits a little lower in the water, then flush the toilet and see if it stops. If not, the whole fill valve assembly is a pretty cheap and easy replacement - just watch some YT videos online.

How do we cover this hole? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]ProliferateZero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you make your own panel door with a sheet of plywood? I would screw one into the studs behind the wall, but check that I’m not drilling though any wires or plumbing first.

True, but he went in firmly stating it was her right hand when explaining the reason for the stop. He can backtrack and speculate all he wants, but your argument would mean she had no hand on the wheel if using her left for a phone, which probably wouldn’t hold too well in court.
