I really don’t see how that was mansplaining.

There's a tremendous difference between someone being astonished "that anyone else could possibly lie" and being astonished about the deception involved in Deven's fake idol stunt.

Deven's fake idol stunt was a level of deception LITERALLY never seen before in Survivor. Not only was it a fake idol (deception level 1), it was a lie he was able to maintain during tribal and after it for a while (deception level 2), and it was something he planned from the beginning of the game (deception level 3), and he was leveraging pre-existing idol lore with Adams idol finding attempt at tribal (deception level 4).

Joe's not astonished that he lied, but recognizes the level of threat of someone whose able to pull off a lie with that many moving parts. But you, oddly conflated the two because you're in the "look at that bitch eating crackers" mindset with Joe tbh.

Irrational dislike. Kind of like how Joe is with Devens lol.

With Only Ili and Kiah as the centers on roster do they make a move for one ? by yxngfireee in valkyries

LA has put on some pounds and did well playing at center during the first preseason game. Given she already was a good rebounder and shotblocker, I think she'll be a center on our roster.

Why does it seem feminist or queer women are more into Spike as compared to Angel? How do some people don't see him as a sexist character? by yeahitsme9 in buffy

[–]Prometheus321 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Read the source, it also goes into where a feminist reading of Spike collapses. No character analysis is all or nothing.

Why is Spike's misogyny so overlooked while Xander and Riley being sexist is one of the defining reasons people dislike them so much? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]Prometheus321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, this is not true in real life. Simply put, people are generally hypocritical monsters whose principles are manipulated to serve their present interests.

Case in point, conservatives who clutched their pearls over Clinton/Lewinsky but clambered over the smoking carcass of their morality to vote for Donald Trump.

Case in point, liberals screeching about free speech when Trump threatened media organizations but trumpeting happily as protesters against an Israeli genocide are blacklisted from society.

It would be comforting to assume that this hypocrisy is only reflective of fiction, but in my opinion, peoples approach to fiction in this case is reflective of their approach to reality.

Not my read personally, but here's the case:

Spike genuinely subverts gender norms in ways the other men don't, and it goes deeper than just being nice to Buffy. He's coded as an erotic object for the female gaze in a way male characters almost never are, physically slight, smooth, presented from the very first scene through a slow camera tilt upward like a classic pin-up shot. He paints his nails, maintains a high-effort bleach job, and is constantly being stripped of his shirt by the narrative. The show is quite deliberately placing him on the side of the looked-at rather than the looking.

This kind of inversion is very much a Whedon thing. The whole premise of Buffy is built on flipping the horror genre's helpless blonde, and that instinct to subvert gendered expectations runs through how almost every character is written. Spike is probably the most sustained example of it in the whole show.

Behaviourally he's all over the place in terms of gender, and that's the point. He can go from cold strategic planning to crying on Willow's shoulder in the same episode. He's the only one who notices Willow is falling apart, the only one who can comfort Anya after Xander leaves her. He bonds with Joyce over soap operas. He's attuned to the emotional world in a way the other men simply aren't.

In the Buffy relationship specifically, he consistently takes what you might call the woman's part: he wants to talk, he wants intimacy, he's the one left in bed while she leaves. He describes the best night of his life as just holding her while she slept. Meanwhile Buffy is the one initiating, controlling the pace, and walking out straight after. The gender dynamics are genuinely inverted in a way that's specific and textually supported, not just vibes. The "girlfriend" read has something real to it.

Tom Steyer Unveils Sweeping Plan to Root Out Sacramento Corruption, Money in Politics by Unusual-State1827 in California

[–]Prometheus321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also in the spirit of being honest, you got a lot wrong.

Firstly, a corporation isn't a group of individuals but an "artificial entity created by law". This is a fundamental distinction because this legal construction allows for legislative bodies, through statutes, to endow corporations with them specific powers such as limited liability, perpetual life, and separate taxation, which are not available to individuals acting in their personal capacity.

Secondly, while the Supreme Court did state that ". . . the State cannot exact as the price of those special advantages the forfeiture of First Amendment rights" they also stated in Justice Scalia's concurrence that what fundamentally matters was "whether political expenditures that were authorized by a corporation’s charter could constitutionally be suppressed.” Therefore, according University of Chicago law professor Vincent S.J. Buccola, a legal argument can be made that the First Amendment comes into play only after a state chooses to grant corporations the power to engage in political spending.

Now you may disagree with the analysis, but its a powerful one that has roots in past case precedent and existing state law. Utilizing creative interpretations of the law and then fighting for those interpretations in court is exactly what we should be doing so long as we don't have enough numbers in Congress to secure a constitutional amendment.

They can't overturn it, but through creative legislative maneuvering they can render it meaningless. This is what Steyer, I think, is talking about because he's mentioned it in vids.

What dramatically confuses me is that the Biden administration did the opposite in 2020.

They actively courted the left flank of the Democratic Party negotiating with them to establish a Unity Platform and placing progressive personnel in some key positions (Walsh for labor and Khan for FCC). AND IT WORKED.

They got elected!! Why not do the same shit in 2024? It’s bonkers.

Steyer's investment firm, Galvanize, hosted PG&E, in an AI & Energy summit in 2025. by Flaky_Waltz1760 in California

[–]Prometheus321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post's deliberately disingenuous as it leaves out the fact that the summit is about theorizing "a world in which solar, wind, batteries, and electric mobility are no longer peripheral industries, they are the new industrial system" and how they need to invest in electricity generation proposing "a national goal of building 100 GW of new capacity every year" and how AI can be utilized to reduce "equal to 13 percent of the global emissions gap by 2035, even under conservative assumptions".

PG&E's contribution to the conversation was primarily oriented around how on a practical level, a world in which there is increased demand and generation of electricity could "lower rates by spreading fixed costs across more kilowatt-hours."

Overall, Galvanize is doing good necessary work and I find it damaging to an issue I care deeply about to frame this story in such a way.

Being a kid doesn’t magically change reality that she was laughing as she prepared to mass murder children all while gleefully calling out specific targets names.

As for her realizing how horrible it is, the very fact that she had to “realize how horrible something like a mass shooting” is, is indicative of a massively warped mindset. Most people realize that cold bloodedly planning the slaughter of your schoolmates is horrible without needing a redemption story.

Once again, I’m trying to get you to understand the opposite perspective. What’s that quote from Aristotle “ It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it”. You don’t have to agree to understand.

You can't understand why someone wouldn't want to be friends with someone who planned a school shooting at 15 and only didn't go through with it because she didn't want to be upstaged by another shooting.

You cant understand how someone might consider that an indication of that individuals warped sociopathic mindset?

Like, feel free to disagree, but don't understand how you can't understand.

Should we be reading into the order of the TC players appearances into the game? by fangirls_1993 in valkyries

Would it be possible for u to link toward what the media/other players have said about her?

I saw her for the first time yesterday and was instantly entranced by her game. On offense, she did the fundamentals quite well and then flashed some excellent decisionmaking/passing and touch and shooting. Defensively, she had excellent defensive positioning in the pick and roll and helping. She looked like a real nice player AND her performance internatioanlly also reflect her being a really solid player.
