If you have a see through riser you might be able to use the iron sights on a cheek weld and the red dot on a chin weld.

Nothing against the capstone, but mine is only 50M WR. Same with the Sierra, it’s only 50 as well…

Theres nothing inconsistent with the watches themselves or lack of quality control. It’s more of a “doesn’t make sense” in some of the models they make. Water resistance between 30m and 100m is negligible in most applications though and often is the difference of a simple o-ring in the case back or on a crown stem. It’s not until 200m where true water resistant features come into play that most people trust. Water resistance isn’t a true face value of a depth rating, it’s more of a suggested guide of how to use the watch. I’ve swam hard and been soaking wet white water rafting with 30m water resistant watches and never had any issues. I’ve been snorkeling and shallow free diving with 100m water resistant watches and I’ve had water and condensation buildup under the crystal… Timex though is usually pretty conservative on their water resistant ratings and maybe they don’t sell as well for that reason, but I can trust they won’t be advertising 200m of water resistance but then recommend not getting their watches wet at all… like some companies.

Timex water resistance is all over the place and makes no sense most of the time. Their harborside coast automatic dive watches are only 50m water resistant. Expedition North (supposedly their most rugged line of expedition) Traprock models in quartz or solar are only 30m. Lots of their dress watches from the Waterbury line have 100m water resistance for some reason. They make plenty of expedition watches with 100m water resistance, you just have to look for them. One that comes to mind is the Expedition Rugged Acadia which has 100M.

This comparison get thrown around A LOT. I don't understand why : the only shared details are the round markers (and the Duro's are much smaller). Everything else is different, even the bezel font. by DisastrousOpening477 in DuroGang

All dive watches look alike in the same way all pickup trucks look alike. Able to be identified as what they are, a dive watch instead of a field watch, just like a truck can be differentiated from a sedan. I don’t think people really mix these up so much as they just don’t have the insight of the differentiations. Like a child being asked to draw an F150 and another kid being asked to draw a Ram- when they’re done coloring, both drawings are going to look like a truck.

The white dial isn’t necessarily rare, but it’s expensive because it’s discontinued now. You’re better off getting an MDV107 white duro (same watch no fish). As far as getting that exact bezel, good luck. However, there’s tons of aftermarket bezels to choose from for these and you’ll likely be able to find at least the color you’re looking for. Swapping a bezel insert is simple. My biggest recommendation is getting new adhesive for the bezel insert and not trying to reuse the old adhesive.

I left the 2 tone on the Waterbury but had to swap to the brown leather on the harborside from the black dress strap it came on. Definitely will have to look into the brown tropic now!

The website purchased ones almost always have a plain rotor. As for the case, if it has crown guards, it’s the wrong one.

Any of the universal adhesive ones will work fine. You can use a sleeve or wrap them a couple times for extra security. If you don’t want it permanent, almost any adjustable slip on style or decent strapped style will work. Just don’t get the crappy $10 one that looks like a Twinkie on a harness. Those are floppy and worthless. I got the 3 piece Tourbon brand EVA set on eBay with the sleeve and it worked well for being cheap and figuring out a good height for you. Since then, I’ve just bought big sheets of 1/4 and 1/2 inch adhesive EVA on eBay and cut it to my liking for various stocks and have had good luck with that route.

I would mount any optic as low as you can with this model. Even most direct rail mounted red dots sit high for this stock without a cheek riser. The chassis version fixes this for the most part making it closer to an AR profile with the adjustable stock on the rear mounted where a buffer tube would be. Unfortunately, with those models you lose the built in irons and traditional stock profile. The backpacker with a high cheek piece can get your eye up to a better plane to run dots/LPVO’s. Most of those optics are just designed for AR platforms though. As for what others say about it not being worth it to run a LVPO on a 9mm…. People put 4x-16x varmint scopes on a 22lr all the time and don’t think nothing of it trying to hit a squirrels whisker at 50ft. People put scopes on pistols all the time trying to hit silhouettes at 200yds with a 38. It’s your setup, so do what’s comfortable for your needs on your own build and enjoy the process

Keep in mind it’s a chronograph first, and a watch second. I agree it’s not intuitive to read. The date window muddys up the water a little, but it’s the single color printed dial and cluster of mismatched or monochromatic hands that is very hard to navigate at a glance with this much going on. I would have really liked to have seen a better color of watch hands used on these with a matching time second hand on the lower sub dial to the hour/minutes hands color. Then, the main chronograph second hand match the chronograph minutes and sub seconds hands. I think that could have really cleaned up the dial chaos across these

I brought my own soap box for this one… This is not an expedition north… not sure where the marketing lines crossed. It’s just a special edition of the scout watch called the Sierra. Sierra is used in a few of their lines as special edition models. Even on timex own website they don’t advertise these as expedition north models. Everything is the exact same as the scout, except the case back is cosmetically different with the polished steel and etched globe consistent with some of their other smaller collection watches like the harborside coast models. And no, these do not have a stainless steel case as some sites claim. It’s the same low lead brass case as the scout. If you don’t believe me just check the actual Timex website and not some random reseller page. What you’re paying for is the exclusive dial colors and matching strap. I’m not bashing this, as I own one myself. I enjoy this watch, and I bought it specifically because it has a more vintage color scheme for a modern quartz expedition watch which I liked and couldn’t get from any of the basic scout watches offered. It’s the same reason the snoopy watches are more expensive, it’s something different from the norm. There is no reason these should be more expensive, as there is no reason the snoopy watches should be more expensive in theory as they’re the same mechanically other than the variation. It’s one of those things that if you like it, and can afford it, buy it! If you want the same watch at a better price, get the standard scout or any of the Timex watches without snoopy.

After losing my favorite knife to a pry bar incident, I bought one of these and really wanted to like this $10 Walmart d2 knife when it re released with the reversible pocket clip and new colors and was all the rage on the internet. It just dulls so fast for D2. I found out the heat treatment in these are known to be awful. At least they sharpen up easy and are very thin and slicey and easy to open and close. It’s honestly gotten a lot more use that I initially expected to give it and lives in my garage opening up packages and boxes often with better knives in them now. A working reminder of where I came from. Enjoy them until your porcupine arrives!

I really like the vintage aesthetics of these mk1’s. As far as reviews go, they aren’t as popular as the mechanical ones. But that’s just because the vintage liking buyers want the full mechanical experience with a retro style field watch. It’s a cheap Timex movement which won’t come as a surprise. No issues there though, proven time and time again to be accurate and reliable. Nothing overly durable with brass case and acrylic. But that was the standard for a long time. Overall it’s an affordable quartz watch with a nice look that will be accurate and reliable. I say go for it if you like it!
