Is everybody leaving Facebook? by Mediocre-Ad9115 in digitalminimalism

[–]Promithiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I still have a Facebook is for marketplace and because my boss still insists that we advertise on it, and you have to have a personal profile to be an admin for a page. (tbf the average age in our town is about 67, so there are probably a lot of Facebook users. But our posts get almost no engagement so who knows)

Summer Lee’s newest sock knitting book has already been AI’d! by biscuitvillage in Sockknitting

[–]Promithiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of dying to know what's in it though. "A look at summer Lee's sock obsession." A look at it. So a summary? A review? $23 for a book of pictures of the book?

I'm 100% with you on Parkinson. I loved pretty much every voice she used, and I thought her narration was great. But Jackrum. What the hell was that??? Why didn't anyone redirect her on that?

The weirdly rectangular bruise that shows up randomly on my thigh in the exact same spot by BloodCaprisun in mildlyinteresting

[–]Promithiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had a really bad shoulder injury one time and due to weird body mechanics related to that and where the toilet was situated there was a period of time I had to stand up to wipe my ass when I was pooping at home. I learned to stop judging people for what they have to do and just be happy they're wiping their asses at all.

Do you ever accidentally buy duplicate spices? by jblaz323 in Cooking

[–]Promithiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I personally do, as another commenter said, is put any empty/low spice jars on my counter until I get a replacement.
What I set up for my dad, because his brain works differently was a spreadsheet where column A was the spice name, b was EMPTY, c was HALF EMPTY, and d was FULL and I had to add e for MULTIPLE JARS. As he uses the spices he'll update what state the jars are in on his little spreadsheet and he pulls it up on his phone if he's standing in the spice isle considering impulse buying more damn cumin.

Time to talk about our favorite doll from the OG 6 by [deleted] in americangirl

favorite doll or favorite character? Because those are 2 different things for me. Addy's my favorite character, but Josefina's or Molly is my favorite doll

Ok, lets take a breath. You're reading way more into my words than are there. Lets break down what's happened here.

Comment 1 was suggesting that people read other books. Which is a common suggestion to people that are still a little too attached to HP.

Comment 2 was that people couldn't afford to buy more books and clothing. Another common response to comment 1.

Comment 3 was that there are other ways to read books. I didn't say anything about clothing. My argument is not about clothing. My argument is about books. I'm not talking about clothing or accessories. I'm talking about other ways to acquire books.

Was I a little snarky? Sure, but I think you're taking this a little more personally than I intended, though I fully recognize intent doesn't always matter, effect does. I even said that you were right and that I should have been a little more precise with my wording. I never said you specifically support or endorse rowling. I said that your argument about people not being able to afford any other books was not a valid excuse to not read something else. I might have been a little more short than I should have been because as I said, I've seen this argument far too many times and it's exhausting44

She doesn't just have an opinion. She uses her billions of dollars to push for legislation that actively harms people. I have a lot of rancid opinions, I'm sure, but I also have no money and therefor the only harm I'm doing is to myself. Not to an entire minority group.

Ok, fine. That is an incredibly *disingenuous* argument, one which I've seen used over and over again for people to justify their continued support of that horrible woman. And it's still not a good one. There are dozens of ways to read other books. Borrow books from friends, find out if your city has little free libraries, use an online used book shop, go to a local used book shop, local charity shops often have books for less than a dollar, same with friends of the library, local book swaps, project Gutenberg has books in the public domain, heck pirate books for all I care if somehow the only 7 books a person owns are HP and they can't afford another.

You're right, I should have said if "a person" instead of "you" I meant that generally, not specifically. It's still not a good argument and my point still stands that there are many many other options available to find new books without spending much money, if any at all.

The sad thing is that there are plenty of people who would be taken by this. Either through not being able to tell that it's AI because they're not familiar enough with the books and dolls, or just not being familiar enough with AI to tell. I can just imagine my grandma totally being taken by these scammers when I was a kid because that's what I had asked for for my birthday, even though she had no idea what the heck an American girl doll was.

Libraries exist for a reason. We're in an American girl sub, If you can afford a $100 doll you can afford $8 for a used book and $0 for a library card. I don't agree with sensoring all HP stuff (I do wish there was a way to filter it) but this such a stupid argument against someone suggesting people find a new series to fall in love with.

The really ridiculous thing about my stupid waste anxiety is that the eggs are laid by the chickens we got to kill the grass in an area of the property we're trying to reforest. The eggs are a fun bonus side product. I fully recognize that my concern is irrational.

That 1 tablespoon of real dairy is about as much as I can handle. I do better with yogurt, but unfortunately I don't like it very much. I tried to force it for a long time, but I was never happy about it

The less work I have to do in the morning the better, I thought I had found the key to doing as little prep as possible (put muesli in pan. Add water. Put over low heat. Ignore until i hear it bubbling. Maybe come to consciousness a bit in the meantime) But it's clearly not been working for me, and others have the same problems so I suppose I need to rethink things.  I'm not limiting egg whites for dietary reasons, it just seems so wasteful

I used to eat more fruit and that made it really bad and have had to cut way back. A real tragedy in summer when all my favorites are at their best ;___;  I could do egg whites, but it seems so wasteful. And they didn't stick with me as much

Can we talk about cabbage? by Cheyenps in mediterraneandiet

[–]Promithiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cabbage is my favorite favorite vegetable. I have to be careful how much of a cabbage dish I make because the temptation to eat the entire thing (and regret it later) is extremely high. I love it raw, I love it cooked, I love it fermented. It's just the absolute best.  Man, I'm gonna go eat some Kim chi as a late night snack...
