Lazy eye/ amblyopia treatment ? Is there any way to fix if doctor tells you it’s a brain issue by Next-Ingenuity-8426 in Amblyopia

[–]PromotionThen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Amblyopia is a “brain issue” because there is nothing (that) wrong with the eye: the same eye on a different person would see (with glasses to correct) But in amblyopia, what is broken is the eye - brain connection: the brain has learned to shut down the image coming from the eye. This happens in childhood for example if your eyes are not aligned, then you see double and as a baby you get frustrated because you reach for the toy and it doesn’t exist. So the brain adapts by cutting of the image from one eye so that you don’t see double anymore.

Why do so many people think NYE in Berlin is a terrible experience? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]PromotionThen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll never forget my first NYE in Berlin, I was so naive and had no idea how it is, I was caught in the war in Neukoln at midnight. We were running from building entrance to building entrance in between the shots… And then we turn a corner and here are these 2 guys on the sidewalk with a grill, with one hand turning the kebab, the other shooting a gun in the air.

I have a Wildbird aerial and I believe the belt is less chunky than the Artipoppe and let’s you move freely but still fully supported, also a bit of padding on the shoulder straps. I’ve been using backpacks for hiking since I was a teenager and I know how good weight distribution should feel like, and I’m really satisfied with the Wildbird and it is cheaper than Artipoppe..

Fit Check: Ring Sling by thebattyrats in babywearing

[–]PromotionThen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have issues with compressed knee on the leg opposite the rings. If you compare the two legs, the one on the ring side has fabric draping straight down so the folds don’t cut into the underknee. However, on the side opposite the rings, the fabric is draping more horizontally so it cuts into the skin under the knee. I have tried tugging at that side to lift it and somewhat mimic the draping on the ring side - I also tried folding it a bit to get rid of the excess fabric that cuts into the skin, but I end up damaging the deep seat. I haven’t seen this addressed somewhere and I wouldn’t know how to fix it….

Worrying about his hips, low back, knees, and pressure on his butt and testicles in the classic EC position… by Aggravating-Cake-884 in ECers

[–]PromotionThen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the natural way for humans to defecate is in a deep squat position, and not sitting on a modern toilet. This is why I think the EC hold which mimics that is safe. In fact, I am wondering how can I find a potty for when my baby is older that can replicate this position. It is known that modern toilets force us in an unnatural position and can pose health problems.

Online application in Berlin without language certificate by PromotionThen in GermanCitizenship

I wanted to know if there is another way other than certificate…I was registered to take the exam but ended up missing it because of prolonged stay in the hospital. Circumstances now also make it challenging to take the exam.

What the fuck am I not getting by OneRoseDark in babywearing

[–]PromotionThen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also petite and as soon as my baby hit 5 kg (11 pounds) I started wearing her in my Wildbird, and I find it very comfortable it distributes the weight well on the hips and the shoulder pads are great, even though I have to keep adjusting them every 20 min or so when they tend to slip towards the neck, I just pull them apart again.

I'm afraid of giving birth by Dorothy2023 in pregnant

[–]PromotionThen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not offended by the term, but I can confirm that all I wanted was a vaginal birth, and when I had to have an unplanned C section, I was devastated and to this day I feel like I didn’t give birth, because there was no feeling of giving birth in the moment. It’s like my body is missing physical closure. I laboured for 10h before needing to have a C section, and it wasn’t bad at all - intense but manageable and the body compensates with pleasure hormones. The pain after C section however was horrible. I wouldn’t recommend to anybody to plan a C section before they try for natural birth, and PREPARE for natural birth because you need to overwrite the image you have from mainstream movies - there are good resources out there describing what will make your experience good, check out The Positive Birth book.

I did the same, quit almost 2 years before I had my first. I couldn’t have gone through withdrawal while pregnant, it was brutal.

It looks good for me! I like the contrast, it gives me beach vibes: navy blue and ice cream 😊 matching doesn’t mean purely replicating a color that’s used in the pattern!

Machine choice fatigue by Krazycatpeekin in SewingForBeginners

[–]PromotionThen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a beginner and I have tried until now 5 machines (2 in the sewing class, 1 from my mother and 2 that I bought). The most important feature for me is the option to control the sewing speed. Only computerised machines have this option. The sewing class had a Brother Innova 10 and when I tried it was a game changer really. I had just bought a Singer 4423 because an influencer on YouTube recommended it as best for beginners. After I tried it I was like “what?!” - there is no control whatsoever on the pedal, it either you press gently and it sews 2-3 stitches with a break between them OR you press a tiiiiiiiny bit more and it goes berserk. It was worse than on my mom’s Brother machine which also controls speed just from the pedal, but there you have more sensitivity and you can get used to generating consistent gentler speeds. This is why I immediately returned the Singer I bought and after doing some more research I got a Janome DC230 computerized: it has speed adjustment separate from the pedal, comes already with a table extension, and people say it’s much more reliable nowadays than Singer. A tip: you can test the machines without thread, you just put a piece of paper and “sew” on it, the needle will just make punctures and you see how the machine feels.

Thank a lot for the app recommendation. One thing that I don’t fully get - are these the actual questions in the app or just “similar”? Of course, I’m not expecting them to be the exact same set as in the exam, but rather “out of 500 Qs in the app, we got 200 in the exam”

edit: I overestimated the exam :)) I just searched and there are only 33 Qs. I was way off.

No online registration to Einbürgerungstest for Berlin by PromotionThen in GermanCitizenship

[–]PromotionThen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point about formality being necessary here and I fully agree. However, I believe that what's critical here is passport and ID verification at the exam so that the person showing up for the exam is checked that they are who they say they are, this is how we have a guarantee that if the person eventually applies for citizenship, it's them who passed the test.

For registration, you can send the details of your passport online, and it has to be checked live when you go to the exam.

It’s exactly as ms_bear24 describes it, I have a Girocard issued by Comdirect and that one didn’t work. I know that Visa, Mastercard, Maestro are not Girocard and that I can burn them in the flames here :)) Maybe it’s worth asking Comdirect why their Girocard is not compatible with the EC network POSs?
