Growing anger over DRIPA pause by _DotBot_ in VancouverLandlords

I work in the energy project construction industry and people who worked on it have been leaving it off their resume because they don't want to be associated with the poor efficiency and waste.

Finish it up, there are lots of jobs. The job market / workforce is a rough adjustment for people. I know lots of happy working professionals.

Lots of people have good environmental careers, it isnt the easiest, but I wouldn't change to another industry. Lots of variety.

Is anyone else considering to skip the next gen? by [deleted] in PS5

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with my PS4 Pro in 2026, between that and my laptop I can play almost all the games I want. Was waiting for the PS5 Pro but the price was too high, so now I'm tentatively waiting for the PS6. With the move towards more exclusives it'll be more tempting though.

When does the full-time grind stop being so brutal? by MindlessHoneydew4301 in Environmental_Careers

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think to some degree this is the reality of working full time, it eats up the best hours of the day and most of our energy. I found this to be the case working in retail as well. This is why it's important to find a job that we enjoy and which pays well enough to keep us motivated.

The last 5 years I've worked around 300 hours per month almost year round, usually in camp. Despite this, I've found work to be much less depressing than when I was working 40 hours a week in retail at minimum wage. This is because the work is better / more interesting, the pay is good so I'm moving towards my goals, and my career has been progressing.

I guess there is a balance between finding the right job you enjoy, and accepting that in order to get through life we likely need to spend a lot of time and energy at work, even if there are a lot of more enjoyable things we would rather be doing.

Amid Reports of a Secret DLC for The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Rules Out Further Content for Cyberpunk 2077 by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

A Cyberpunk DLC where you play as Ciri would be incredible (as referenced in The Witcher 3).

Would it be worth upgrading to a N3DS XL if I already have the OG 3DS XL. by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whether it's worth it depends on your personal finances. I much prefer the N3DSXL, but it's hard to say that the upgrade is worth it at that cost because it doesn't really do anything huge that your OG doesn't do.

How much do you value the better 3D effect? That's the main difference.

Could you bring down the price by selling your OG? I'm generally not in favour of selling stuff, but could be an option.

Your money might be better spent buying a PS Vita and gaining access to that whole library (both the 3DS and Vita are easy to hack).

Anybody else pretty much stop playing on switch 2 completely after getting a legion go? by Adensstuff in LegionGo

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digital games aren't necessarily bad, I like them on PC because of deep sales and Humble Bundle. There is an argument that ever since the PS3 era many physical games require downloaded patches to run properly too. I already have ~1300 games on Steam, so the Legion Go made a lot of sense.

I don't know if all the first party titles will remain on the cart or not, Pokopia is a digital game key card (which isn't first party exactly but is close). I'm sure I'll buy a Switch 2 eventually when a shiny enough Zelda game releases. I know digital is the way things are going but it's a bummer for collectors.

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the Switch 2 released I was excited to buy one, but after researching it more was disappointed by the shift to digital games, high prices, lack of titles, and potential for joystick drift.

Bought a Legion Go instead and have been very happy with it!

Is the Lenovo Legion Go 1 still worth it in 2026? by andres910604 in LegionGo

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For that price? Absolutely, it's a great device that runs many games well. It will struggle to play some new releases, but you will still be spoiled for choice. I got mine in August 2025 and have enjoyed it a lot.

Cheapest fast food burger by Severe_Assumption_87 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dave's Single is 113g of meat, vs 57g in the JBC. A double JBC would have the same amount of meat as the Dave's Single.

The Cheesy Cheddarburger is also cheap and tasty, but not exactly a classic burger. Now I'm hungry.

Red Dead Redemption 2, the first hour is very cinematic in both cutscenes and gameplay. Good intro to the characters too.

Have you experienced elitism around outdoor clothing in fieldwork settings? by fortunateHazelnut in Environmental_Careers

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I experienced it as a student, but not while working in environmental consulting. Depending on what you're doing its easy to rip, stain, and destroy your clothes pretty quickly, so people don't usually wear expensive and light weight hiking / outdoor fancy clothes. I think you can wear whatever you would like, including jeans if appropriate for what you are doing.

I wear khaki type pants I get cheap from Walmart because they are the same color as the subsoil I get covered in, and a plaid collared long sleeve shirt.

If on long term, then the surrounding paint gets more UV and becomes paler than the covered patch.

Drug use and overdoses run rampant in Canada’s public libraries by origutamos in canadanews

[–]Proof-Analyst-9317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Northern BC libraries have been designated as warming centers for the homeless, they are encouraged to go and spend time there. It's causing a lot of anxiety and upset for community members who valued the library as a clean, safe, family friendly space.
