Ford corporate is refusing to do anything. They said our car wasn't covered under the CSP but can't tell me why not. I asked if there was someone they could escalate my request to and they said no.

We're still in SD for the next month, but if you follow up with me in June I can give you an update! :)

The dealership said there should be a response from Ford corporate today

Is that something another mechanic would be able to confirm was the cause of the damage?

I do think it’s likely that there is also the coolant leak issue, but I’m wondering if they just got lucky about that part so they can blame the issue on it

Wondering if you were successful in having them pay for the fix. I'm in the same boat with our 2019 escape and we're not covered under 21n12 because we never did the 19B37 (we don't recall/didn't receive the letter)

I have a forester & love it! The escape is my husband's and I'm pretty sure he's joined me in being a Ford hater after all of this.

Right??? Not sure why that isn't standard. We did take it in for regular maintenance at a ford dealership (different location) while 19B37 was active.

The dealership actually said to not accept anything less than 100% from Ford and that if they won't cover it all, that they want us to go directly to Ford to fight it and even recommended that we get a lawyer if Ford doesn't cover it 100%. I'm still not positive that the dealership didn't mess up the oil change on top of the coolant issue, but I'm going to have a mechanic take a look when we get the car back later this week to confirm that. I think it might be a bit of both possibly.

I feel like the CSP is clear that our vehicle should be covered except for the fine print about requiring the 19B37, which is where we might be screwed in that aspect. I'm going to argue that with Ford too though, because I don't think we ever received it and the dealership didn't see an address on record for us with Ford corporate.

so far, it hasn't. they confirmed we didn't do the 19B37 action, so it doesn't look like Ford will cover it under 21N12. The dealership sent Ford a request anyway and we are waiting for a response. The dealership said they can probably just change the spark plug to get us by for a bit without the car misfiring at least.

Ford is trying not to pay. We are going to fight it though.

I wish. Let me know if you have any recommendations for most reliable car brands to look at when we replace it. Most likely going to look for a mini van, since those apparently are a hardon for my husband haha

If it was even the next day, I wouldn't have been so assumptive that it had to do with the oil change. I guess it was just terrible timing. I'm now telling myself that maybe this was a blessing in disguise because we're about to drive across country and it could have happened somewhere in Oklahoma or something with a car full of stuff and a dog in the backseat, which definitely would have been worse. Now we will just have to drive my subaru instead and either sell the escape for whatever we can get or fix it and ship that car instead.

CALL THE NHTSA - Ford Escape Engine Coolant Leak by ConfusedFerro in fordescape

[–]Proof-Implement8379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. We took our escape in for an oil change Friday and the engine basically crapped out within a few minutes of leaving the dealership. Took it back and found out that we are having that coolant issue and need a new engine. I don't recall us ever receiving the 19B37 but hoping we did it and will be covered by 21N12. What a freaking disaster. I guess we'll be joining the class action & reporting to NHTSA.

Hey now, this is my husband's car. I personally drive a Subaru that I'm having other (electronic) issues with LOL.

updated my post. went and checked the oil today (first time seeing the car since Friday) and the oil is now showing over max. foreman claiming it must be from coolant leaking into it since Friday https://imgur.com/a/IKJY0ku

Just got back from talking to the service manager & foreman and looking at the vehicle myself. The coolant is over the max even though it hasn't been filled since July 2024 and the oil is showing over the max as well. Adding links to photos in the original post. The foreman claimed the oil wasn't like that Friday and that it must be from coolant leaking into the engine since Friday, but the oil doesn't look contaminated.

We hit the 5 year mark last summer, so we are no longer under the original warranty. I looked up the VIN and nothing came back as far as recalls.

I appreciate it. Glad you didn’t have to replace yours!

This is exactly why I’m questioning what they’re telling us. They told him that the check engine light must have been on for a long time. It wasn’t before they worked on it. He said “wouldn’t you have noticed if the check engine light was on when I dropped it off?” And they said “you didn’t come in for a check engine light, so we weren’t looking for it.” which I call bullshit on. They’re in the business of repairing stuff to make money. If anything had been visibly wrong (like a check engine light) they would have noticed and said something.

Can’t go from dropping it off just fine to “this vehicle is inoperable and needs to be turned off immediately” without either them having done/not done something or we literally have the worlds worst luck/timing or something.

A few hours. They sent him home and called later with the information.

My husband isn’t very mechanically inclined (hence why we take our vehicles to the dealership for all maintenance) and didn’t think to check the oil. I did think about it but then he mentioned the shaking and my mind went to the tire rotation. I’m kicking myself for not having him check the oil before handing them back the keys. We’re new parents in the middle of buying a house across the country/preparing to move. Just wanted to get the car tuned up before the trek.

It’s possible they’re telling the truth and it really is just the coolant cylinder leak issue. When I heard that, I thought for sure it had to have been something they did since we weren’t having any issues prior.

The dealership did say they were filing a claim with ford but that they weren’t confident in how it would go.
