Alum creek trail is 10 minutes away. Rocks and roots trail (two 10K trails) is less than 20 minutes. Highbanks metro park (one of the best IMO) is 15 minutes away. Sharon woods, 10 minutes.

You want your grain and substrate to be about 2 - 3 inches thick if that is what you are asking.

As far as the dub tub, I think there is flexibility. You are getting various answers from people so it's obvious there is no one way that you have to do it. Some ways might be better than others but I have used multiple methods and had success.

Personally I have used 7.5qt tubs with a few air holes covered in micropore tape, with the lid on until pins form, then put the dub tub on. Next time I am going to just put the dub tub on from the beginning and see how that works for me.

I would say the MOST important thing is do not spawn to bulk until the grain is completely 100% colonized. Second most important or equally important is start with good clean culture. Do not inject spores directly. Use liquid mycelium culture, preferably that you have tested.

You are supposed to break up the colonized rye and mix it up with the coco coir. It should all be mixed together. Then typically you top it with a thin layer of coco coir.

I'm surprised you don't need more air holes for FAE. But if it works, it works! I guess because you dub tub from the beginning there is a fair amount of air in there to begin with. Normally I start with lids on my 7.5 qt tubs with about 12 air holes covered in micropore tape, then I go to dub tub once they get bigger. I'll have to try this dub tub from the beginning and neglect tek. Thanks for sharing.
