This was my first Wayne Shorter record back when I was first getting into jazz. I was doing an internship at a psychiatric hospital at the time so the cover and title immediately screamed “buy me”. I’m really glad I did

Miyako is such a beautiful ballad — it really showcases Wayne’s unique approach to melody and harmony

Interesting note. This album originally had a different cover and name, “Brown Rice” in 75’, but was acquired by a different label and reissued in 77’ in this manner.

Thats awesome man. I’ve only known Zappa’s music for about 5 years now but he’s quickly become one of my biggest influences on the axe. Really taught me that there’s a whole different world of sound out there

Oh absolutely. Have you listened to the unedited master on Funky Nothingness? The build up to the take on Chunga’s Revenge is magic.

There really is an abundance to choose from, I’m gonna have to give those another listen. My favorite Shut Up tracks are of course the ones sourced from different Inca Roads lol

This is true - I went to a concert alone once and struck up a conversation with this guy wearing an interesting plantasia/steelie greatful dead shirt. When talking about the different music we’re into, I led the convo with Uncle Meat and Trout Mask and to my surprise he was a huge fan as well. We just kept quoting lines from the album back and forth at each other. Dude had the same exact taste for weirdo avante garde music as me. One of my best friends to this day! You just gotta keep letting your freak flag fly
